So I fitted another throttle body the other day after breaking my injector and since then I'm getting a strong smell of fuel through the vents when I turn the fans on. Have checked for leaks and splits in breather pipes but found nothing. Any ideas?

Obvious checks would be around throttle body -- probably best done with engine running.

Have checked round throttle body and all is as it should be.
Pipes are all ok. No fuel leaks. Just can't work it out.

Finally found where the fuel smell is coming from. The breather on my rocker cover is heaving out smoke.
Is there anyway I can sort this out as I'm having to drive with the window open

There is a few ways around it, you can recirc it back into the induction setup (that's how it is standard), you can fit a catch tank.. which will lessen emission from it a fraction, but still should then be routed back into induction from the catch tank rather than to air (technically an mot fail, though mine never failed on it even once), or another way around it is to remove the filter, run a much longer breather hose down the back of the engine to direct the fumes under the car.

The "correct" way though is to get the engine taking in it's own fumes

Thanks for the ideas.
I don't understand why it's just started smoking though as its been like that for months and is only now a issue.

Maybe it's just because it's getting warmer outside it's more noticeable. When mine was setup like that, i seem to remember that you never noticed it at all in winter but could really smell it badly when it got a bit warmer outside.

I'd keep an eye on it all the same though, it shouldn't be excessive....

Unless your MOT man is blind it's an automatic fail. The gases from the breather must be re-circulated as per Mr.C's suggestions.

If the gases are very petrol, rather than oil, it could be that your oil is petrol diluted aqnd the petrol is evaporating.

I happen to be a mot tester but it's not due till October anyways so win win lol

to be fair, they do smell if you just have a filter on but they shouldn't really smoke much - not visibly...

Check the flame trap in the pipe isn't totally clogged up, i'd be tempted to do a compression test at this point myself.

But if its been like that for ages it could just be that the filter is totally full of oil and that starts smoking a bit once the engine is upto temp.

Flame trap? It's just a piece of empty rubber pipe :s

Ran a pipe from rocker into the wheelarch area for now and seems to have done the trick.
Thanks all
