Technical 1242cc engine swop

Hi well after a drive to cheddar yesterday for some climbing, the little beast started running like poo again checked the engine and it was way hot. Let it cool down whilst climbing for 4 hours and ran like poo again getting really hot on a 2 mile drive to another venue. If I disconnect the battery for a while it kind of resets the ecu and drives ok.
So now have to work out why its over heating. Drove to Bristol keeping the revs down fan permanently o. Heater on with the fan flat out, now the odd bit is that the heater only blew cold air? When I got to Bristol everything was really hot all the pipes except the lower pie from the water pump was not as hot and the middle and bottom of the rad were quite cool. Thinking it my have gotten blocked. Problem is, I'm at a friends in Bristol with no tools and a 67 mile journey home. Thinking of finding a halfords for a few tools and try flushing the system. Failinv that Iit may be recovery time.

I can't remember the make only fitted as I had it and had to drain the system to fit the water pump.
Back home now, so tomorrow after work I can take a look, and flush everything through.
The rad flush did help as had hot air coming out of the vents withe the fan on full blast all the way back. Which is more than I had before.

Ok, so yesterday I took the whole coolant system apart and flushed everything, including heater matrix all pipes and the block.Tested 3 thermostats all 3 work fitted the one from the 1108cc. Fitted a new radiator with a new fan switch/sensor. Changed the sensor in the head to the one out of the 1108cc as the Punto had a temperature gauge. The sensors look different, not sure if they work differently? Noticed there was a small split in the pipe to the MAP sensor so cut that back and refitted. Filled with nice new coolant and started it up, ran for a few minutes seems better, but the fan never kicked in which is bit of a worry. Put everything back together in the dark and came home . Will find out when I take it for a drive wether its all good.
Thanks Fingers for your help:worship:. You mentioned in one of your posts about the MAP. I presume if its leaking air from the split it would read less preasure and lean out the fuel causing the engine to run hot.

the sensor with a gauge is a variable resistor a light uses a switch

Bleed the system several times prior to yesterday's flushing antics. Going for a test drive in a bit. A temperature gauge would be awesome about now. Fingers crossed.

Ok so a bit of stop start, fast dual carriage way, small lanes, fast A road, quick thrash up through the gears back home sit parked ticking over for a few minutes and BRUZZZZ the fan kicks in hallelujah that's one thing working(y) Nigel didn't play up either. (y)(y)
Hopefully that will be the end of the overheating. Just waiting for a chip and central locking to turn up. Then finish cleaning up the set of wheels in the garage and add more to the want list. Oh and get some work done on Frank my other toy the Suzuki SJ410.

Ok. Had a trip to redpoint Bristol yesterday for a climb, as rain stopped outside activities. Nigel performed flawlessly:D(y) if only I'd spotted the split in the MAP pipe earlier, oh well live and learn.
I now have the car Fiat should have made to start with, nice flexible power. It'll pull 5th from 1500rpm to the red line and hold its speed on long drags. Sweet.
