hi all, i have to change the alternator on my daughters seicento 1.1 suite. ive read some great threads on here about douing this but just out of interest i asked a friend to look on auto data....his reply was "its easy,.....unless of course its got air con", now oddly enough it does have aircon so before i start taking this apart does anyone know what difference aircon makes to this oppereation? thanks for looking and hope someone can advise

The alternator is mounted solidly with a tensioner for the belt unlike a non-ac model.

Essentially on a normal one the alternator belt goes from crank pulley straight to the alternator which pivots to tension the belt. When you have AC the ac pump and alternator are mounted to a bracket thats bolted to the back of the block. Belts go from crank to ac pump with a tensioner, and then a second belt goes from ac pump upto the alternator. Both belts will have to come off so replace both and the tensioners while you're there.

Took mine out recently and from memory, you take the expansion tank off and then lift it out the top.

Here is a few links to the eper that show the layout of everything and part numbers for the tensioners

And the two belts you need are 4pk545 & 4pk788

so are you saying i can get to all the parts from up top? do you mean to do all the job or just part of it?

no i mean once you have the belts off and the alternator unbolted it comes out the top rather than out the wheel arch like on a non-ac car.

You will need the car jacked up and on stand on drivers front side, wheel off and inner arch out in order to access most of the stuff you will be undoing.

thats what i thought you probably meant but was living in hope, as much as i love the little thing (its more for my bennifit that i convince my daughter to keep her) i cant say i enjoy working on her....more use to working on somewhat bigger things....and a lot more accessable

its not that bad.. but having ac does make bleeding knuckles more common lol. Just thank the gods its not as packed as my engine bay... I just removed my ac as i never use it, didn't require anything that wasn't on the car already to do.
yeah i was looking at ur turbo.....think im too old and impatient to work on that...as fantastic as she looks im not up to scratch with me yoga to get into the positions needed to work it that kinda space.....my main car has 4 times the engine size and space to work around...only problem is the rest of the car is so complex...it dont exist on auto data and only one person in the country can do the suspension...dont know why i dont just buy somthing simple....the little sei makes me smile everytime i drive her so i will just struggle on

I'm kinda used to the tiny spaces by now, had so many cinq/sei's now but i do help at a garage that does 4wd vehicles and its very refreshing to be able to just sit on the floor underneath something, loads of access and all the bolts are massive so they rarely break etc.
