Im same as blu - the quicker it is the better the MPG so long as its constant and not up and down, this is where i really need to get cruise control retro-fitted so can be more constant

But i am twice the engine capacity what is being discussed on here so probably not beneficial to be going quicker in the weedy engine cars

I also find economy driving stressful and get bored, especially near journeys end and i always come across some t*t who is driving half a mph quicker or slower than you so you have to put your foot down and then it ruins everything!

People who get a thrill out of knowing theyve saved 2 quid for that journey more than likely live at home with their parents, have probably never been laid and play world of warcraft all night browsing the internet for next add on pack

Theres always a remap - you'll also see an increase in MPG going that route and it will pay for itself over the time and you dont have to drive like an anus (or Pepo)

Dude one of your best post ever hahah !!

Well,I stick to about 60 mph and listen to my Inspector Morse talking book, not sure what a world of warcraft is but is sounds nasty.doing 20000 miles plus per year gives a bit of an incentive to save money on fuel too.

To put it into some kind of perspective, I have to drive to Manchester twice today and don't expect much change from £60.

120 miles or so.

I won't be cruising at an indicated 65.

well for your information the M1 between Luton and Milton Keynes has speed cameras on the variable speed ganteries and they are getting customers even when the displays are off, I think they are then set to 77mph

There's always LPG conversion...............[/QUOTE]

When i had my yellow 52 plate seicento sporting lpg converted, it would do near enough 300 miles on just over £20 and that was with spirited driving,

I find driving economically more stressful and more tiring that just driving without worrying about the mpg and just keeping to the speed limits and/or the flow of traffic. Besides which i find the alfa does the most mpg if you get upto speed as quickly as possible and then just whack it on cruise control, speeding up casually seems to just use alot more fuel than a quick burst of power.

Agreed on the speeding up, My Bravo is no less economical getting up to speed quickly, but thats a Turbo Diesel, small NA petrols seem to do better with gradual acceleration.

I dont begrudge these individuals doing what they are doing driving wise though let me add, and some its probably necessary to be a bit more economical - for example a delivery driver or a travelling salesman or those that do 20/30k a year in the car

Glad you summed it up with the last section, if only doing 5-10k a year I probably wouldn't being so MPG focused, but when doing 20-25k a year, a few £ saved on each journey soon adds up.

On long journeys I tend to set out with the intention of getting good mpg but end up thrashing it anyway :D

The economy doesn't seem to be affected either way. Would be nice to get 300 miles from a tank but lifes to short to worry about it.

been such a long time since i drove a small NA car regularly, got 4 car and they all have turbo's  . Did drive Eklipze3k's sei around for a while but it had a jammed open thermostat at the time and and so never really warmed up and used loads of fuel. It was actually not far off using the same amount of fuel as the turbo sei does - now there is an arguement for looking after your car if ever there was one!

Personally, I drive normally with little concern for MPG on my daily commute, its only 16miles so trying to better my MPG doesn't save much, however every weekend I do a 60 mile motorway journey, on these journeys I try to stick to around 60 - 65, save myself a few quid over time, plus I'm in no rush, engine quieter too :p

Sorry, but that is total BS...!
Well you have not read the owners handbook I fair copy:
@@
refuel before the warning light lights up or as soon as it starts flashing
@@
Cause I live in long curves e.g. motor way exits I rarely run below half

low fuel levels can cause irregular fuel supply ... with negative effects on the exhaust and catalytic converter system

I do suggest you read the handbook before taking the auto for a spin

They still saying you can only use BP fuel, and Tutila Oil etc  :chin:

No in my handbook it says 'recommend' it does not say 'you can only use' further it quotes the specifications as well as the recommended brands variants so clearly a free choice if you done want or cannot obtain..

You have a different handbook from me perhaps?

Please read the handbook more carefully.

Low fuel levels is one thing -- though it's difficult to see how that can damage a cat. When the red light comes on you'll have enough fuel for at least 30 miles.

In periods of extreme poverty I've had the red light on for very lengthy periods, without any issues (apart from running out when I got over ambitious!).

The T5 managed 39mpg today -- mainly motorway, but a few excursions in Manchester (and I thought the roads in Liverpool were bad!) and the pool. Unable to investigate Milton Keynes and the M1, but we'd probably have been done several times.

I did a 50 mile motorway journey on the red light in my GP once. For days I would drive on the red light too, I once ran out of petrol but fortunately it was as I rolled into the petrol station. Never had any issues ever. The way I see it, using the 'red light portion' of your tank is just the same as using any other bit, if you know how long it lasts then there isn't a problem.

Think id give old pepo a heart attack/stroke/both as ive run mine with the computer displaying 0 miles in the tank

Pepo - you should live a little and dont lead your life through the manual, be a devil and let it run to a quarter of a tank left ;)
