1995 899cc. i wonder if any member could advise me on how to get the black plastic fuel pipes off the white and red plastic elbows that are at the top of the fuel pump.
i have tried boiling water and a hair drier on the hottest setting but it doesnt seem to warm the pipes up enough to make them flexible.
i dont want to use force and snap the elbows off, because i need to use the pipes again.
i contemplated cutting the pipes at the elbow but i still need to soften them to get them onto the replacement pump red and white plastic elbows.

Can't you just re-use the elbows? Surely they're retained by a screw and will then just pull out. Anything else is likely to damage the pipes -- although in extremis you might try submersion in acetone.

Remember -- only the "core" of the pump actually does something -- the rest is just a housing and float for the petrol guage.

hi fingers thanks for the suggestion but the red elbow on the car is cracked and leaking due to spanner rash caused by my brother helping to take the busted pump out, so need to put the red elbow off the replacement pump on the fuel line . also to get the cut line off the the elbow that is ok .on replacement pump.
got the pump second hand off e bay.

Acetone or something similar may do it. A friendly paint shop may let you have a little gun wipe/Spiririt Wipe/Panel Wipe or even cellulose thinners which may do the job.

Fibre glass suppliers are your best source for acetone itself.

Do me a favour and take a picture of the offending pipes. The ones on the Sei have pinch connections, so when you squeeze the 2 tabs it releases the lock and allows it to just pull off.

Cinq ones are old style.

If you get hold of some acetone, get the old stubs off first -- chances are it'll be a one time only operation.

It's not impossible that they might have been changed though.

You will find it almost impossible to get them off without cutting the pipe.

i have got round the problem by , cutting the red elbow side fuel pipe .then fitted the replacement pump which came with the pipes cut.
as fingers 99 suggested fit the original white elbow and fuel line and obtained some clear thick plastic tube , warmed it up with a hair dryer and pushed it onto the replacement red elbow and over the original black hard plastic fuel line and wired it in place.
every thing running fine and no leaks. as rallycinq says the pipe wont come off the plastic elbow.
