Didn't know how else to phrase the question

Bought a Fiat old stock 'refurbished' IAW59F.M3 off Fleabay in January.
Seller is a New/Used Fiat dealership & the ECU came in a genuine Fiat box & looked like new.
....only got around to fitting this today only to find the immobiliser light won't go out.
So the question is -when a ECU is refurbished by Fiat is the original cars immobiliser code PERMANENTLY erased from the ECU, or is it possible for it to reset itself if the ECU remains unused for some time? (2 years in this case).

Ive seen and heard of others that fit the gazzaman chips that some people have the immobilizer/code light staying on permanently and others have no code light showing and with my old chip2race eprom i never had a code light show up again(y)
If it runs then just take the bulb out:D

If it bothers you disconnect the codebox and see if that takes the light out, its a little black box in the drivers footwell and it has 2 connectors going into it, get in your footwell and look up its close to the steering rack, if it doesn't start after that then just plug it back in :p

Ahem, i've got an MPI Andy, Gazzaman sold SPI chips.

Thanks for that Lee but i already read the ways around it, disconnecting codebox or doing an emergency start up procedure.

Peeps, the problem isn't little glowing bulbs -it's that the car is immobilized!
So i'm trying to find out why a Fiat remanufactured ECU won't code to my car.
Is it because....
Someone at the fiat dealership has trial fitted it to another vehicle?
It wasn't refurbished properly?
Or will a virginised ECU revert back to it's old codeing if left for too long without re-coding to another vehicle?

It's too late for an E-bay complaint/refund but if the third scenario is (as i think) impossible then i have a (very) small chance of getting the issue sorted out by the seller.

BTW -MPI Sei, MPI Punto engine, & MPI Punto ECU so it should code to the car without any issues.

From what I was told.
The code box should be linked to the ecu. ie. Type (M1/M3) Hardware No (HW024/HW303 etc). Different chip sets. The early M1 version is the worst for compatibility issues and I believe is only fitted to the seicento.

I have an unlocked M3 that should run any MF59 car but the code light is on flashing with the code box in on my seicento.

Your ecu could be virginised and is waiting for codes from the code box that is non compatible? A virginised ecu, from what I gather, is basically plug and play.

The advert may have said some where... please check compatibility before purchase?

CC1 Thanks for the techno info- not my strong point.
Different chip sets, bugger didn't think about that!
Assumed the code boxes were the same across the range.
Hmm, so where do i go from here....?

Must be someone whose fitted a 2nd Gen ('99-'03) 1.2 8v Punto engine????
Has anyone got around the compatibility issue?

I learned today that the mk2 1242 16v punto ecus are re coded by connecting up, starting the engine, full throttle twice then turn off, and that's how they recode a new ecu, whether he meant simulating starting it or weather he means actually starting I'm unsure but it may be worth trying ???

Other than that it may be a pricey trip to fiat to get it recoded, failing that find a local mobile remapper and have it decoded

Cheapest way will be getting the ecu unlocked at ecu testing. £80-£100 maybe?
What's wrong with the original ecu? I found the M1 gave more power than the M3 punto ecu.

C'mon Lee think about it.... It's immobilized so it won't start :p
Will give it a simulation -IF it ever stops raining , anythings worth a go (y).

I was just giving a suggestion lol, based on something I was going through with a bloke fixing my missus' punto today (her puntos ecu snuffed it) and was thinking maybe it would be the same way of re-coding,

At worst it won't do anything but it might be a start :)

Was a bit suspicious about the M1 ECU due to fueling issues & the M3 turned up at a good price.
As i'm running a Punto lump i thought the M3 fuel mapping would be closer to what it needs. It's a working car- not a show car, so i'm not prepared to pay for rolling road/remapping- that would cost more than the car cost me! ....& i'm too tight :D
(Fueling issues are caused by something else & will be sorted tomorrow -unless i have to build an Ark instead ).

Lol if u build an ark I wana see it :p lol got bright sunshine here at the moment :D was thinking of washing the cinq :p :p will see if I can find the recoding procedure, just a thought but have you tried disconnecting the battery to reset the ecu???
