hi all,

just wondering what the thread size is on a 1242cc 8v oil filter?? wanting to know so i can add a sandwich plate for oil cooler :)

also how is the driverside gearbox shaft seal removed and replaced?? can i do it with the gearbox still on the engine?

cheers
Brin

I'm using one of these for the sandwich:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OIL-COOLE...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eb7b55c80

It came with both size adaptors one of wich obviously fits, however I can't remember what size it was I can check for you tomorrow. You might want to consider a thermostat type though.

When you say shaft, which shaft are you talking about? If you mean drive shaft it just pops out with a pry bar which I'm sure you already know that, so I'm not sure which shaft you mean?

the seal on the gearbox is leaking (drivers side shaft seal) i just want to know is it as simple as removing the shaft and pulling the seal out with a screwdriver and pushing a new one in??

You mean the inner drive shaft seal, the one that seals the shaft going into the diff to the gearbox housing. Yes exactly as you described, make sure you put plenty of oil on the seal before you fit it. Drive it home with a suitable sized socket or bearing drift, be careful the seals are weak and easy to damage.

WIll get back to you tomorrow about the oil filter fitting but according to this its M20 x 1.5

but if you could confirm tomorrow that would be great thanks buddy

yeah is enough room there for sandwich plate and filter. But don't get the one that is meant for the punto/cinq, get a smaller one!

Just get one from halfords :)
