Does anyone know where abouts the connection for the radiator fan is on a '99 Sei? I can see 2 wires that go near to the fan, one is possibly going into the engine near the oil filter, but I can't be sure... The other one is on the drivers side, coming down from above and underneath the arch liner...

Basically the problem is that the fan is not cutting in when the engine gets hot... So it's overheating... I've flushed out the system (radiator and engine)... I've replaced the thermostat too. Just now I've taken the wire going into the temperature sensor/radiator switch off and connected the two contacts together (as it says in my Cinq haynes manual) but the fan did not come on at all... I'm wanting to run a 12V supply to the fan to see if its actually working itself...

If it's not that, does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

Thanks

Adam

there is a fuse for the fan on the sei behind the battery. its a sod to get to. when gex parked his sei in a field, it jammed the fan and blew that fuse. Its a big spade type fuse (like giant one!)

If not, couple of leads of the battery and poke the back of the fan and see if it'll spin up (thats fun...!)

That's the best advice I've heard in a long time. Get 2 live wires and poke around:cool: rep please :D

Lol. I thought of the fuse when i went to bed last night :O... Didn't realise it was behind the battery though... stupid place... i'll take a look later.

Thanks

I've replaced the fuse, as it was blown... Shorted out the temp sensor and the fan didn't start :( The fan is free to move, but it was rubbing against the radiator.. Could it have burnt out, then caused the fuse to blow? I haven't tried connecting a 12V supply to it yet...

could've done that yeah. You shoulda seen what happened to the fuse on gexs, it melted the whole thing.

After you've poked it, if it is dead - and you get the part from fiat, order the fan for the cinq, not the sei

its exactly the same, and around half the price!

Ok sweet, thanks.

I got a mechanic to look at the car yesterday, he said the fan was cutting in ok when he tested it. So I took it back thinking it was all ok... later yesterday evening I left the engine running a bit while I was out and the water started to boil again :( and no fan coming on... I've really got to check with a 12V supply I suppose to check if the fan actually works or not for myself.

Thanks

Yeah this is FIAT acting at its most efficient. The Sei fan is over £100 and the cinq was about £40-£50 (I think). They are the same thing but priced differently depending on the route you take through the parts CD.

Ok, I think I may need to purchase a new fan for the radiator..

Just want to confirm though..
I was gonna get a cinq fan for the Seicento.... I gave Fiat my chassis number for my '96 Sporting, and they gave me the part number 46411378. Will this definatly fit my g/f's '99 Sei Sporting? And will it be a straight swap? I think it was £50 or £70 or something.. Anyone have a price for the Sei one?

Thanks

Adam

Gex has a sei with a cinq fan, if i werent so drunk id look for the receipt for mine and check the parts number

my parst cd doesnt do the sei, but i can with 99.9% certainess say it'll fit fine - and be around half the price of the sei one

Cinq fan £46.41 inc vat from www.shop4parts.co.uk. I've been looking 'cause I need one too. Burnt out motor; new fuse, starts spinning, doesn't get up to proper speed and fuse blows after about 15 secs. :(

Cinq Sporting fan = £55.68

Sei Sporting fan = £104.69

I know which one I'd be buying!

My Parts CD says:
Cinq Sporting radiator: #46475456
Sei Sporting radiator: #46475456

BUT, the Sei also has a replacement aluminum radiator with #46783702
It's said to last a LOT longer than the original... :)
