And I can say I'm pretty chuffed with the little feller, stops very well, handbrake works and there isn't a clunk or rattle to speak off.
One think im having issue with is cold starts 20% of the time it only wants to fire on 3 or even possibly 2. Given a second some times it will smooth its self out and tick over properly, others it will eventually give me a check engine light. If its given some high revis for a second it again sorts its self out. even when only firing on 2/3 it never stalls out.

Warm I never have a problem it also pulls well (as well as a 1.1 will) though the RPM range.

Its had new plugs oil and a service, Any suggestions? Could I be looking at a coil pack issue?

Other than that, I think he will be with me for some time, its shocking just how well it turns in and just sticks. A happy fiat owner :)

mine does it now and again if its an SPI i could be over fueling slightly but nothing bad, if MPI could be a sticking injector for a couple of strokes, lower than normal oil thickness as its cold could reduce valve clearances causing gas build up and a cylinder stall? (mainly 899)

could try replacing the HT leads

With all my 1108 sporting a misfire on cold start that last ffrom 3 seconds upto a min was an indication that the head gasket was on its way out as a little drop of water seeps into the bores overnight and then has to clear when you start in the mornings.the last one i had go lasted for a month before the misfire and serious lack of power became permanent.....then hg change (n)

No water usage and no excess vaper in the mornings, I suppose it's possable but I realy don't need to be doing hg ATM, it done over 1k miles with this so far.
I'll check for arcking and check the resistance though leads and coils next weekend.
Thanks all :)

Do it now its dark and only takes a few mins and i covered over 3000 miles with mine missing on start up before it finally gave up and it used virtually no water at all as it only takes a small amount of water in get into the bores to start a misfire :bang: only takes half a day to do hg(y)

It's the mpi so airbox needs to come off, it's also warm at the moment and it's parked on the road.
I'll do some investigation over the next few days, have just found the compression tester.

Well a few months in, I got a loss of power, gunk in the oil, gunk in the water.

Got the head off it today :

Head is off for a work tomorow and expecting new belts, and a HG kit with new SB's

Thanks to the guide on here its been pretty easy going. The only none easy part was getting to the two bottom drivers side manifold bots and battling with the wheel arch liner.

My prediction back in february was correct then:D the hg was on its way out(y) just out of interest how many more miles have you covered in the last 2 months? i predicted 3k how close was i:devil:

I only managed another 1k out of it. Its all start and stop driving. I think I would have been closer to your 3k if the fan had not gone walk about....
It was down hill quickly after that!

Annoying thing was I was thinking about selling it, now I have added this to the list of work I have done it doesn't seem like the sensible idea I was hopping for!

You should keep it they are fun drive and ive had more smiles per mile than any other car ive had :D:D and ive had some nutty powered v8s in my time but the cinqs are far more fun and easy to get anywhere as we can squeeze thru gaps others cant:D cheap and easy to repair as you are now finding out and you are learning something new and next time you wont even think twice about doing it;)
why get rid of cheap fun motoring:confused: i certainly wont be getting rid of mine :p

Your right. I enjoy driving it (believe it or not) at the moment it meets my needs. The bad tick over has been a source of annoyance since purchase.
The more I dwell on it the more im sure it was sold to me with rad weld stuck in it.

Oil wise, what should I do? I feel I should flush it before I put the good stuff in it due to the water slopping about in it, is basic mineral oil ok for this?

Next question, cylinder one is clean due to the water, 2,3,4 outsides are also very clean. much more so than I would expect. the gasket doesn't indicate failer on 2 or 3 but the pistons tell a different story.

Oil wise use a good semi synthetic 10/40 and what i did with mine was use a cheap semi synth 10/40 to run it up for 20mins with new filter and then dump that oil and filter then put your decent oil in(y) always works for me:D:D
dont worry about them looking clean mine did and i put it down to them running hotter as they were having to work harder as i used more throttle and it burns any carbon off....had same with a mini(y) or they may have been just seeping a little:)
