Hi everyone

New to the forum found it by chance when searching for some info with regards to water pump sealant , When I got the pump for my 2001 1.1 sporting from fiat they gave a black silicon sealant to use for the gasket the problem that I have is the mechanic did the pump & cambelt kit for me but the pump started leaking the very next day. He has agreed to do it again , My question is why has it leaked he basically put it all on and fired up straight away should he have left it for longer to allow sealant time to cure ?? I'm a little worried it could happen again if he is not allowing enough time . I would be grateful for all advise given Thank you .

Wouldnt worry about it. The mechanic will have learnt his lesson. Depends what the sealant was, but the water pump should be tight enough for minimal drying time tbh. A little is always advised, but wouldnt interfere, youll only annoy him. haha

Id put my money on the old gasket not being removed properly first. If it came with a paper gasket ive always thrown it and used just sealant.

Thanks for the advise , The problem I have its a guy who works at a garage and he did it has a private job afters hours I'm finding it hard to nail him down with a time two do it again so if it happened a second time I'm not sure how that would play out . The sealant is the genuine stuff fiat supplied me they said its all they use for sumps/water pumps .I did watch him do it and he only cleaned the engine side so just wondering should he have give the new pump a clean as well ? .

He did seem to put quite a bit on . Im just looking at the old pump should it just be a bead in the sunken channel that goes around the pump?

Thanks for all the info /advise guys . Well he is re doing it today so fingers crossed .

Update all went well I am now leak free . He did put to much sealant on took a bar to leaver it out lol .
