Hi,

I have recently purchased a seicento schumater that failed its mot on a weeping fuel tank, among other things and i was wondering if all seicento fuel tanks are the same?

There are tanks on ebay for about £60.00 delivered so am hoping this will be compatable with my schumacher!

If anyone could confirm this that would be great!

Many Thanks

No they arent all the same the 899 ones are smaller IIRC

If you get one thats for or from a 1108 then you will be ok

Hi,

Thanks for the Info, the Schumacher is an MPi model, can anyone post a suitable fuel tank for sale?

I was hoping to post a suitable one from ebay to get confirmation but I need 5 posts before I can post URL's!

Hi again,

I have been searching the forum for more info on the Schumacher edition seicento. Anyway I have found this post:

Hi Guys and gals! was wondering if anybody can help out and shed some light on something for us. My girlfriend's Fiat Seicento has knackered rear radius arm bushes that could do with changing. I thought it would be much easier to order new radius arms and get them fitted on. However, she has the Michael Schumacher edition (ggrrrrr!) and I dont know why but fiat took it upon themselves to use a lot of one off parts on these cars - and I think the radius arms are no different. When I look online I can only find (on shop4parts) the none abs arms - they're £122 quid each - quite pricey, but not as bad as ringing up fiat and finding out the ones for our car are £240 each! Why is this? Anybody know what the actual difference in in the radius arms? can the cheaper none abs ones be made to fit? or is this just another Fiat scam? Had the same issue with the fuel tank till we discovered we could just use an SPI one and swap the fuel pump from our tank over into it! We would appreciate it if anybody can help out on this one! Cheers all!

Anyway he is saying that swopping over the fuel pump is all thats needed to fit the SPI fuel tank, does anyone know if this true? Is much easier to find SPI fuel tanks, can get one for £60.00 rather than the £90.00 odd an MPI is prob going to cost.

If anyone knows anything I would appreciate it!

No, 899 & 1108SPI are the same.
1108MPI tanks are different.

A 899 tank has a 35 litre fuel capacity whereas a 1108 tank has a 38 litre fuel capacity

Does that mean the tanks are physically smaller?

They might not be different work wise or to look at but with it being a smaller capacity its surely different as the range is going to be effected?

899 & 1108SPI tanks are exactly the same part, so obviously the same capacity too...
Unless you mean that the 1108MPI tank is slightly larger than a 1108SPI/899 tank.

hi, on the shop4parts.co.uk website they have both fuel tanks for the seicento. The mpi and the spi. However one is £258.00 and the other is £55.00 guess which one is the one I need!

Anyway looking at the pictures there doesnt seem to be much difference between the tanks. The mounting points are certainly the same, and the tank breathers seem to be the same. However the middle hole in the spi is open, (I assume this is where the fuel pump goes) and in the MPI it is closed with a bung, now is that a transit thing or is the fuel pump mounted in a different place on the MPI car?

Also there are two smaller holes to either side of the big one which are open on the SPI (am not sure what they would be for) and closed on the MPI what are the holes for?

It does look likely that the SPI tank will work with the MPI car. If there is any one that can provide me with further reassurance I would appreciate it!

Give fluffy a call or pop in if youre anywhere near derby?

Or you could ring up your local Fiat garage and see if they'll put it in as a recall due to some of the earlier models suffering from a corrosive fuel tank.
Though my car is 2002 this is what we were going to do, you can still swing it so theyll do the recall though its later ;)
I found a second hand genuine tank with very low mileage though.

Yes have already tried contacting fiat uk but they said non.

If there is a fiat garage that is sympathetic to this in the northwest i would love to know about them!

The reason its more expensive is on the mpi all the main fuel items such as the pump and the filter are all internal items fixed within the fuel system itself whereas on the spi cars they arent

You might notice the fuel filter for your car isnt part of any service schedule as in theory it never needs changing

Whereas on an spi car it is part of the service and needs maintaining

You can use an spi tank but you need to remember about the rest of the other fittings as well and swap them over too

It has been done

The differences between SPI/MPI fuel tanks:
Old one is original MPI.
Some replacement SPI ones may have the fuel pipe clip studs.
There may be a difference in the filler pipe inlet.
I have fitted two types. One that I picked up in Poland, And one purchased of ebay.
The new one in the pictures was from ebay.
The breather hose was a bit tight, But with a little lube it went on.
The filler tube went on too easily, But set correctly it sealed ok.
Mpi tanks have a design change on the top of it for the fuel pipes.
