Folks,

Went to do some work on my Sei today and the passenger footwell was swimming!!:(

Can someone advise, on the following please:

  • How to remove the sunroof?
  • Where the drain tubes are located?
The car must have been parked under a tree at some stage before I had it and all around the tailgate seal and sunroof seals its quite filthy.

From my citroen BX days I remember that it was common for folks to try to unblock the drain holes - only to succeed in disconnecting the drain tubes inside the 'A' pillar!! Don't want to do this...

Any info, (pictures - words) very much appreciated.

Cheers

open the sunroof (don't remove) and you'll probably see them -- in the corners, IIRC.

For removal, there's a copy, I think, of the owner's handbook which should have come with the car, in the downloads section.

Removed Sunroof. The amount of grot!!! Cleaned it away and cleared the drain holes, (using some thin wall 2.0mm auto cable) - sweet!

All I need to do now is figure out how to dry out the passenger footwell, (no electricity available), probably use loads of newspapers, just keep changing then?

Cheers

Hi again,

Just went to say hello to my Sei this afternoon and to check him over, (he's called Graham).

Well seats all dry, closed sunroof, been keeping it open a crack to air the car recently, but now the weather's improving, i thought I'd close it.

In a hurry and forgot to open it a crack again, but anyway - noticed that the passenger footwell is waterlogged again!!

I peeled back the carpet some weeks back, so that's mouldy, but dry, the other carpets are dry, the seats are dry...

I did remove the sunroof after Christmas and cleaned all the grot away, (must've been parked under a tree? Cleaned out all the blocked drain tubes.

But still this water in the footwell, (quite a lot too)!!

Any ideas anyone. I want to replace the felt insulation under the carpet, this just became waterlogged and fell to bits some time ago, so i removed it, want to put the carpet back down in the passenger side, etc, etc but now this.

Any ideas please??

Jon

At the rear of the engine bay is a rubber to drain water that goes through the vents below the windsreen. Leaves and things can block it.

Three things to check there:

Rear light clusters leaking, (wouldn't this fill the rear spare wheel well and rear carpets also)? - will though thanks.

Coolant - don't think so, there's been loads of water coming in from somewhere, (coolant level seems fine) - but will check.

Rubber drain - I think I've seen this on my daughter's car and de-clogged hers, judging by the sunroof grot level, I'm sort of thinking this might be it -I'll check also.

Determined to find out one way or another - will let you know.

Cheers all.

Ah.... wet passenger carpet again. So checked the rubber vents under the fan motor, good enough to allow water passage! Cleaned then totally anyway.

Any other ideas??(

Might be worth your while getting someone to run a hosepipe over the car whilst you are inside having a good look round looking for obvious signs of entry. Shouldn't take too long to find if it's as bad as it sounds.

Many years ago (early 80's) I had a 1964 VW Karmann Ghia and that also filled up the footwells. It was the windscreen rubbers and once I had them replaced it was all okay again. Not cheap though. Boy I wish I still had that car, even then it was a rarity and the current values are unbelievable. I sold mine for £450 with a spare engine!!

'56 oval  won't find a good one of them in hurry again, especially not for reasonable money. Prices of air-cooled veedubs it just silly now - but i will own another.

So far i have owned a '72 1300 & '73 1303s - nout special in the scene but i loved them both dearly.
