Folks,

Our heater was working, now it doesn't! Ive taken the green thing off a sporting heater, (intend to fit this heater to our car - in due course, as its got the recirc and we can also fit the sporting facia).

Anyhow, got our green thing off tonight...

Why did Fiat make them different.... :bang:!

Does anyone know how I might test ours / both?? Is ours repairable??

The difference is the connector, (and the numbers printed on the damd things.

Should I change the wiring over to the sporting's one, (its on the left - ours is on the right).

Will the sporting one work with our heater??

Any advice would be welcomed.

Cheers

By "green thing", do you mean the fan resistor?

If you do, you can test the various resistors with a test meter.
Also check the thermal fuse, which is the small silver bit on the resistor module.

I've no idea whether you can swap the resistor blocks over. (My guess is yes.) To test, try an ohmeter (on a multimeter, currently a fiver at Maplins!) on them. But why not just find a connector and wire that to the existing wiring, rather than faff about with further wiring changes?

Yep, I suppose I do mean the fan resistor.

Forgot to attach photo's, here we go, (below).

Suppose as suggested - I try and find out if the resistor, (pictured on the end of the assembly) is duff first, then I could maplin a new one across the 'S' resistor unit??

Will attampt to check out the wiring tomoz!

Cheers

OK, just briefly had a quick look at the resistor bit. Measured 8.0 Ohms on the sporting resistor pack and 0 Ohms on the 'S'.

Anyone know anything about these units?

What should I expect to measure, writing on the resistors themselves is eligible.

??

0 ohms as in infinite resistance or no resistance? Does the meter beep?

Firstly, not quite sure where to measure, but measured in the same places on both resistor pack.

Have just looked again, If you mean continuity, ('does the meter beep'), then yes, I have continuity across each silver thermal fuse, (item soldered across ends of each unit).

Am looking for guidance regarding where to measure and what I should be seeing??

  • Can I use the sporting resistor pack on the 'S' heater?
  • Need to understand what it does - cos I'm interested.
  • need to understand the wiring, can I convert my plug with three cables, to the four cable system on the sporting - plus why does it have four wires - cos I'm intersted.

Cheers again
