Ok, firstly I would like to say hi to everybody.

I have just bought me a Seicento Sporting on an 'S' plate for £200. It had no MOT but only failed on headlight adjustment and a CV boot so no biggies! (y)

My issue is that the previous owner has fitted a dubious (to say the least) home-made induction kit to the poor little thing! Now, I have owned Cinqs in the past but not a Sei and, in my opinion, my new bit of fun is feeling somewhat underpowered, hesitant and just not quite right, not massively but enough... just wanted to know if this is likely to be the cause??? Obviously I am going to rectify this but wondered too if it would be best to get an original from the scrappie or another (proper) induction kit?

I can't post URLs yet but there are pics in my gallery if you would like a look at the freak show induction from Plumbase!

Thanks for reading and thanks for replying if you do!!

depend on what you want really, some like focus and gsr kits but others like standard airbox with a fancy panel filter :)

thats a funky combination of plumbing fitings hes calling an induction kit :D :D
its not even sitting properly onto the throttle intake :(

and the old stinky sock for a filter on the rocker cover

I've seen worse looking inductions on other cars that have made more power (on a dyno) then manufactured kits.

personally I think gsr are not the best performance wise (I'd say its made to fit and look good more then anything) main reason being the fact it uses the crappy old 899 Bob which is a bit on the small side and the way it enters is not at all good for a smooth flow.

Not anymore does it use the 899 bob. It's now one peice.

In theory, I agree with you. That's to say, we could do a thought experiment where things work out better. David and some of the Poles have come up with systems which, I'd think, ought to do better.

In practice, though, on the rolling road, there's nowt to convince me that any perform better than the GSR.

GSR did just that! Proved it was better thasn the Focus, but also that the Focus was very good value for money.

Of course, a dragstrip, same day, same (consistent) driver and same car would come close.

Cycle used to do this in the 70s, and IIRC, Cook Neilson (the guy on my avatar) could put in run after run within 0.2 seconds of each other.

yeh but ive never trusted manufactures dyno results compering others products. (even more so when (iirc) GSR own their own dyno) there just to easy to swing results.

but anyway... non of this matters to us cento lot as there is not much choice (n) Id buy a gsr because they are available and proven (reliable) they also can be picked up for cheap.

I love that, get it on in the classified's for the fellers with rat look cinqs.
I'd say any proper fitting system, factory or after market has to be better, as for its lack of power, when was it last PROPERLY serviced?

If the induction isn't sealed then you get inconsistent flow of air resulting in the air/fuel mix going all over the shop.. The plugs will end up blackened up pretty quickly. Looking at that i'd be suprised if its air tight all the way along..
My cinq had a poor join between the TB and an elbow clipped to it. Car just started missing one day, found fubar'd plugs so changed them and it just happened again in couple of hundred miles - took me a while to figure it out but new induction kit sorted it.
Why not whip a standard airbox of a cento on a scrappy and see if it makes it feel more normal to you....?

Thanks guys, I now have a new air filter on it and it is sooooo much better!!!

:)
