Right, well the cooling fan packed up today. Doesnt respond to connecting directly to the battery.

Looking at the original ones, they seem very chunky and expensive for what they probably are.

With the larger engine, space is already tight so wondering if anybody has tried the universal slimline ones that bolt directly onto the radiator core?

Does anybody have any ideas on flow rates of the standard item?

Finally do you get what you pay for with regards to things like this:

sounds risky bolting something through the core to me lol

your rad at the end of the day dude try it, might be the best thing to ever happen to cinqs/seis being a nice cheap replacement!! lol

should also note its important to use plastic bolts/nuts when fitting. even more so with alloy radiators as steel touching alloy will cause instant galvanic corrosion as soon as water touches them.

seeing as the radiator will be hot and definatly get wet/damp at some point, it won't take long for you to end up with a shagged radiator

I normally turn the heater and heater fan on when stuck in trafffic, open the windows as well...

Or alloy bolts if an alloy radiator.

Ah cool. Sounds like a better option then. Cheers guys. Will give one a go. Was tempted by 2 smaller ones but dont think it will quite clear the manifold. Not too bothered about fan noise. Was mostly worried whether the vibrations would cause it to just crush all the radiator fins.

im in the same boat here, car overheated today cos the fans not working.

on my Roadster i just grounded the fan switch wire so the fan is on constant, i can do this on the Sei, right?

You can, but it's a really silly way to do it.

Firstly, you'll waste petrol (the main reason cars dumped the engine driven cooling fan in the first place).
Secondly, at times the engine will be over-cooled.
Thirdly, it's probably an earth fault anyway.
Fourthly, the current draw is considerable. You risk overstretching the charging system.

If the car is SPI, I put a trouble shooting guide here. If MPI, there's a wiring diagram in the Sei Technical Manual, Section 4, engine commands.pdf, which is in the downloads section.

Turning the heaters on wont do much, i have nothing there. No fans, no matrix... lol

There is no rest of the circuit. Will eventually set it up to be run from megasquirt to come on about 75 degrees to start with and take it from there.

Certainly a better option than the OEM fans. Will measure up to see if a second one will fit. Doubt it will however.

hey Dan. as you removed the heater have you made sure to connect the small pipe that splits off the heater hose on the back of the head and then goes to the top of the coolant tank?

without the hose at the highest point you will get air locks in the head.

also have you plugged the old heater hoses or joined them? you need to join them or your asking for trouble.

Yeah its all connected up fine. Ran fine for 1000 miles with no probs. Have run a better bleed from the join up behind the inlet manifold. A hell of alot easier to bleed at that level. Pipe is about 4" long. Can just see it hiding behind the inlet:

Right after a quick measure up im going to get 2x 8" fans. I think a 10" might be a bit tight to the slam panel. Might 'just' get both next to each other, failing that i will put one on the front of the radiator on the manifold side.

I wont have problems with over cooling as they will be set to whichever temp they need to come on/go off at.
