Nope, it's not worth doing unless you have a vernier. That way you can accurately time the advance or retard.

What is the height of your decomp plate and how many degrees did you had to add?
the title of this thread asks about ignition timing... why are we talking about cam timing?
btw cam timing on a standard engine can be a few degrees off from the factory (talking 8valve not 16 valve which have the cams locked so timing will always be spot on)
