hi there
i was wondering what bhp i could get out of my mpi sei sporting
i would spend about 500 max
would 60-65 be achievable
with
a good service
good induction kit (any reccomends other than gsr)
cat back exhaust
performance ht leads
better spark plugs
any help is appreciated
many thanks
ricky

for about £200 you could get a punto 75 engine with stock 75bhp.. but of course if you want to work on the 1.1 i think. 65bhp is more than reasonable.. even 80hp maybe with port matching and 866 cam and all your mods too

thanks for that
i have been told about the p75 but realy dont want to change the engine. i did but slowly opted not to
how much is an 866 cam and where from?
and do you reccomend any induction kit?
what about larger TB ? what car is a straight swap?
many thanks
ricky

ive read them, there good but dont say anything about the larger TB being from a certain car or fitment. they say k & n are rubbish but others say opposite
how much is port matching?
many thanks
ricky

ive just gone 18 and ive been driving 10 month now
with the insurance goin up and up daily its impossible to get a better standard car. ive got 1 ncb from a scooter so il have 2 in may and its still 2400 atm so hopefully 2000 my renewal
i just want some more power without goin engine swap route now.
many thanks

Again I really wouldn't bother throwing money into a 1.1 engine unless it's for a competition :D.

Save your pennies up, and try a few other insurance providers out when it comes to renewal date. I'm paying £1100 with adrian flux with 2 years no claims and i'm (currently) 21 (I was 20 when I took the policy out).

Just cope with the dullness of the 1.1 for now, then come around this time next year use the saved money for something a bit spicy'er (y).

If you really want to do something then have a look into lowering, tidying up bodywork (if needed), brake overhaul/upgrade, full underseal (prevent future rot problems), full polybush kit.

£500 will probably do all of those and you will have a much more stable to drive car that will carry through corners quicker (depending on tyre and wheel choice).

Might sound like your dad here but modifying at a young age is crippling at the moment, and not declaring mods will be worse. Chassis and brake mods won't effect your policy too badly as your not adding BHP's, just making the car more stable (y).

Thanks

i wouldnt start buying the parts until my new renewal anyway, i just wanted to know what bhp im looking at. and what sort of 0-60 itl end up with over the 13 sec standard.
many thanks

thats not a bad price that. i can save up aswell as spend a little bit on it. i want a fiesta zetec s next so il have my sei for at least another year.
thanks
ricky

If your going for a fiesta zetec s then I really wouldn't bother with modifying the cento, the way we tend to look at it is "do you want a fast cento, or a fast car?"

Me I obviously wanted a fast cento :D.

The fiesta is a much better starting point, and ford have much better engines at hand that will shoe horn into that bay (y).

Thanks

i would like a modderate cento or more , i was dead set on engine swap but then i want a better car so i dont want to.
i had a race with my mate last night in his 106 1.1
figures 1.1 60 bhp 15 sec 0-60
1.1 sei 54 bhp 13.1 0-60
yet up to 40-45 we wer neck and neck
so either due to not servicing and age i have slowed down slighty or maybe i will pick up fast after 40. wer guna find out tmoro
but with little mods here and there im sure i could just about do his 106
many thanks
ricky

To be fair a serviced and maintined cento should out perform the french 1.1 8v engine. Can't remember what the figures are for that block but power to weight up to atleast 60mph you should still be either slightly ahead or dead next to him.

Smila's old 1.1 8v engine could keep up with some honda's, the phase 1 saxo vtr, and quite a few other suprising cars.

my old 1.2 8v swap made for an interesting "owned" moment with a fairly stock type R . up to 70mph I was ahead then his vtec kicked in and did the rest .

A cento can be made to go quite quick, and it's the most unlikeliest car to still be alongside you at the strip :D. The lack of weight is what gives the cento's there edge, add into the amount of fun and the endless smiles they seem to provide for some drivers.

Thanks

i am slightly ahead then he he catches then i get ahead. we havent managed to find anywhere easy to get a good race but i hope after 40-45 is where my 2 seconds come then he wont be impressed.
was his a modded 1.1
and yours should have a better go and type r after your new project is finished (y)
many thanks

I just been reading thru this tread yesterday, i'm doing a semi 1.1 n/a tune atm u can check my thread out, dronners linked it in the first reply.

You can reach a decent amount im aiming around 70-75 bhp. Cost me 280 euro till now, but then again i do everything my self, only thing i didnt do myself is head skimming.

I have a dremmel and do all the porting and matchporting with it, my mods are the following:

-Engine rebuild kit
-head skimmed almost max for compression increase.
-p75 866 cam, can be found in later p60 engines or 1.2 mpi 8 v engines
-p75 4-2-1 exhaust manifold (needs to be cut cuase its made for eninge with longer stroke)
-p75 throttlebody (needs to be matchported for 1.1 spi top unit)
-Match ported intake manifold
-Head port and polish (a small guide in my topic, with a link how the pro's do it)
-Other chip or ecu remap
- 1 3/4 inch exhaust no kat
- supersprint backbox
-cold air induction system.

Havent done all the above yet missing the red lines, but will reach i guess 350-400 euro. Thats without lowering and brakes ect. Alot of work, dont think ull be done in 1 day. Shims need to be messured ect.

Tbh we can only give u advise, what u do at the end is up to you, be aware that here in holland tuning doesnt cost u insurance money, so i can drop a v8 in it and i still pay the same price wich is bout 30 euro a month,

Still planning to want some power out of ur car, do a engine swap, saves u loads of trouble and frustration, there is nothing worse then aiming for a possible bhp, and at the end not reaching it.

a p60 engine cost u almost nothign maybe 100 or so, easy to do urself cuase of the guides we got on here. The other 400 u can make ur car nice in handling, brakes ect. And ur insurance wont go up too much and u'll still have a blast in ur fiat. (y)

If u want some advise u can always ask us.

These mods would give u aprox 5-6 bhp. Here read this, would make u alot wiser about the 1.1:

Standard punto55/cinq.sporting 1108cc 8v head flows poorly.
- Camshafts, chips, intakes etc. can only take you around 60-65bhp. Appropriate head work will make the head flow around 80hp. In reality the actual power figures never meet flow figures. Reality is usually approximately 80% of flow figures(fast road
cam). To gain more power you have to go for bigger diameter inlet valves.
Small engine like the 1108cc needs high rpms to make good powers so you need a camshaft with good duration and lift. You don`t want too much degrees for exhaust side or you loose low end torque. The inlet
manifold should be slightly smoothened for better reving.
The stock monopoint fuel injection system can go up to 65bhp with standard fuel pressure(1bar). Fuel pressure is easily raised by turning the nut on the fuel pressure regulator with hex wrench(clockwice). To increase pressure use gauge! This way the fuel should be sufficient up to 80+bhp(1,5-2Bar).
Stock throttle body(30mm) is ok for 70bhp but after that should be at least modified(throttle axle and throttle plate nuts are carefully grinned as much as 1/2 of axle diam. and nuts nearly completely)or changed to bigger like 32-34mm.

I'm sure dropping a punto lump in would be cheaper to insure than a modded 1.1?
plus a standard 75bhp punto engine well serviced would be more reliable than a tuned 1.1 lump.
My first call would be to the insurance people.
my first mods would be suspension and brakes before any power hikes (y)
and if you intend to go for a zetec s then the punto engine would be much quicker and cheaper.

you will need all the money you can get when your chasing the rust around the back end of that fiesta!
