I have now got enought cash together for the 1242 engine swap for the cinq, I now need to know if any body can recommend a garage in west/south yorkshire that could do the swap for me. I also want the head porting and cam replacing and t/b from trickler. I would like to find somewhere that would do it as a job lot if you know what I mean (y)

Porting and Polishing'll cost ~£200 Id say...

Then its a good days work to swap the engine..

Yeah I think you'll need a fair wedge of cash to pay just for the labour, plus 250 odd quid for the engine and ancillaries, getting it all tidy, plus a bit extra for any problems as well as all the cash for the mods you want to do. I reckon you're looking at least a grand/1500 quid. Plus the extra insurance. Would probably be cheaper to buy a more powerful Fiat.

Can get an engine for £125.00 tbsei recomended a place called TBP salvage who supply them for £125, say £200 for the head work, £120 for a trickler tb say £100 for a cam then £250 to have it all fitted. So i it might cost me £800 but the car should be quite nippy by then. I want to keep the car as it only has 40 000 on a P plate and is in good nick, like most people I want abit more go. Insurance not really a problem as I am 35

Has anyone gone behond 80bhp with a 1242 8v spi engine? I thought that would be the limit on the injector and am curious as to what was done, ie second injector/bigger one...?

I'm doing this myself at the moment pretty much as above, however my engine just needs to be assembled and all I have to do is drop it in (I have removed the old 1.1 already)

I was going to get it remaped as supposed to a chip because of the ported and flowed head (didn't realise people polished ports - thought this caused condensation?? or do people mean just the inlet ports polishedand exhaust ports gas flowed?!?!)

Any hoo, I was just wondering what other people have done for fueling!?!

Fair enough

You can *easily* do a polish on a cylinder head (I've got an article somewhere and it looks pretty straightforward, IIRC Guy Croft did it on a Spitfire cyl head, but can't remember where exactly.)

Guy Croft is a specialist...

Fiat 2L Twin Cam units and he's on record as havving prepped a beautiful looking 1108cc for the 750 Motor Club...according to his website

I was gonna P+P my own head, but Im gonna try my knackered one, then do a good one once Ive honed my technique

Nobody know or am I on the basics here ?

I am new to the world of the cinq so bare with me...

I'm currently looking into running a bigger injector on my 1242...

Basically all i know so far is that the turbo set up uses a second bigger injector with a seperate controller....

Well, guessing at stuff...

Camshaft, Chip, 40mm TB and a P+P Head...plus Induction kit and preferably custom manifold's I would hope would see past 80BHp..

Then theres Balancing and Lightening the bottom end (incl Flywheel) and a lighter valvetrain and double valve springs that allow 8000rpm+...

As for injectors, there must be a point that the current one reaches a limit..but not knowing how it works yet, im not much good.

80BHP IS the limit you should put on the injector.

Larger injectors are not the ideal method because the spray will not be as good.....

So to answer my question nobody has gone behond 80bhp already on the spi 8v...

As you say doing all that to the engine will get you behond 80bhp but there will be fueling problems... but then at that point you would need such a different fueling and ignition map your problerbly best going for an aftermarket ecu...

This is something I want to avoid if possible so wanted to know how others have approached the problem...

@arseofbox do you know how much that head costs?!?!?
In what way would you lighten your valve train then? lol

True but it takes a professional to do it properly....

Any one can start porting, but its how much you port, where you remove it, where you don't etc etc

Where did u find out that 80bhp is the limit for the current injector?

Surely if you swap it fot the same injector that is used in a turbo setup there will be no problem?

IIRC on Guy Croft's site he has a 1242 8v on ther runnin more than 80brake?

What I meant was getting rid of all the roughness in the ports and making sure there are no air leaks. IMO porting (i.e. deliberately enlargening the ports) should be done by a specialist. They have had a fair bit of time to perfect where to machine. But if you are just smoothing off the insides, then I reckon that it is a DIY job.
