Hi All,
I'm currently running my Seicento P75 engined track car on it's standard IAW 59F M1 ECU. (Magnetti Marelli Micro version)

Now while it's running reasonably well, I'm very aware that the ignition and fuelling map files are for an 1108. (I know I could remap the existing ECU but I'd like to explore all of my options first)

So my question is please:

What have people done with the Fiat IAW 59F ECU when they've gone for an aftermarket ECU or indeed used the P75 ECU (or other donor engine ECU) and wiring loom? (i.e Have they got to leave it in place to control non fuelling and ignition functions or can it be completely removed)

If they have removed it then what controls the instrument panel lights and does the power steering ECU still work independently? (I've already removed the Airbag ECU so no worries there)

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

If your running the micro ecu, then you cannot map it.

My opinion is swap out for a later ecu from a 2001, then you can get those chipped and mapped to take the 1.2 swap.

I'm running my 1.2 16v engine on that ECU and it's useless to say the least (n).

My opinion, go aftermarket and be able to swap your maps around and develop the car so it suits you. Aftermarket would mean being able to ditch your ECU in the bin :D, and just rewire to suit the new ECU.

Thanks

Thanks Todger182 for the prompt reply.

That's a shame on the remap front, I was under the impression that the IAW 59F ECU could be worked on. Did the likes of GSR Engineering (via Red Dot Racing) only remap the later style Seicento Mk2 ECUs?

How are you finding your 1.2 16v on the 1.1 8v map? I've already got the 1.2 16v engine and will be doing the conversion in the summer. (I've had a good look over your excellent thread - very useful)

Thanks again.

The swap is great, there is quite a difference in power and acceleration but the ECU is holding the engine back. Not to mention that it decide now and then to crap out because it's picking up something "different".

I think the later ECU handles the 1.2 16v engine much better from what kritip said.

I spoke to a couple of places to find out about a remap and they took one look at it and said that it cannot be done (n). They need to be able to chip the ECU to put the map onto it, because it's a fully sealed unit and cannot gain access into it.

Thanks

You can upload a new map into the MF59 ecu with the right equipment. I downloaded mine to a laptop after a few tries with a KWP2000+.
I'd buy a punto 75 or 16v ecu and get it unlocked. Then look at remaps. Check with the tuners what they can remap.

Thanks CC1 that's very useful.

I've already got a Punto 75 ECU with wiring loom, code box and key. If I were to use this to run the engine how would the dashboard facilities (Engine lights, Speedo, Tacho, etc) work without the IAW 59F ECU being connected?

Cheers.

I think the main dash functions (obviously not the ECU warning) will simply work. After all, peole have run roper ECUs in Seis (Megasquirt, Emerald, etc.) without issues.

Don't know which injectors you're using -- I'd guess that the p75 ecu won't run later MI injectors and vice versa (different impedence).

Every thing should connect up fine. All the sensors should be in the required range.
You will need wiring diagrams for both cars to help make sense of things.
You can then draw up your own for future reference.
