Cinquecento Sporting: I have a slow leak of coolant from the join between the 'Pipe' and the back of the water pump housing, which drips onto the oil filter.

I understant there is a seal round the pipe at this joint that can harden. Is this easy to replace? Is the pipe really a push fit (it seems very unlikely - how does it resist the pressure)? The pipe seems merely to lodge by gravity in a clip bolted to the cylinder block behind the manifold, it doesn't even look as though it is gripped, is this right? There seems to be some talk of the original O ring seal being modified by Fiat with something else - do I need this or an O ring? If an O ring what size?

Could I slide the pipe to the right without disconnecting the hose just sufficiently to remove / replace the seal?

Thanks for any assistance!

if i understand right.. it may be easier to just replace whole pump whilst your there..
could always put a clip on the pipe and see what happens though. sure someone else will help better than i can lol

it is just pushed in, yes and then secured with the bolt into the block. I have attached some images showing the pipe and the O ring on it.

It's a sod to fit and remove with the exhaust in place. When refitting you need to use a drift a wee hammer to tap it home. Prepare to loose skin off your knuckles and I'd throw some change in the swear jar before you try and remove it.

iirc FIAT did uprate the design of the O ring (i think the edges were a slightly different shape) - so when do replace it, get a new one from FIAT.

Clean the crank case hole with nylon scourer from washing up bowl, I know the exhause is in the way,... coat the o ring(s) with washing up liquid...

Discard scourer the story is the Austrians used very dilute anti freeze ingredient in their bitter wine to make it sweeter one year, decided it would be two toxic and flushed, into soil drain, the resulting effluent, killed a lotta fish in the Danube. try google...
