Hi,

This is almost embarrassing, I am on the edge of finishing the engine+Turbo to be put into my car and stumbled across a problem with getting a proper air filter. The intake pipe going to T is 46mm in diameter. So without thinking too much I ordered a K&N filter with 46mm mounting assuming it would be just what I need. It arrived and it is bloody small, see the pic (a pipe will go between the T and the filter). So now I am looking around for some other bigger filters with the same mounting, but they are all roughly the same small size. Any ideas? I would really like to avoid making diameter conversion contraptions and similar.

Of course, I said there will be a connecting pipe between the T and the filter. I actually found something that I could make fit:

Green filter

Either size 50 or 55, this I can easily make fit.
 
Green is pretty much the same as K&N, have a look at some of the smaller apexi filters, or even a BMC CDA.

What do you mean by the same? Same sizes? The one I got is clearly for motorbikes and scooters, the Green I linked above is clearly for cars.
 
I actually decided on one of those Green filters, says over 200 BHP, I only need to make sure it will fit where I want it to be, mounting it on a 46mm tube I already sorted out.

I had been wondering if you could pipe the filter to under the wing(inside the splash panel)
and then duct in cold air to that position?
 
Isn't a cold air intake a bad option for a turbo? Since you are forcing the compression side with air, while it's designed to spool by only sucking air by itself?:rolleyes:

i didnt say plumb the feed onto the filter,did I?
I said to that position
as in under the wing to maintain an airflow through the area

Temperatures do get really hot under the bonnet, especially above the gearbox, where the air filter is mounted (as in my case), because of the radiator that's mounted in front of it.

I just cut a hole in the cinq front grill then removed the rubber strip. IT made such a difference !

I've found if you just remove the rubber seal from the scuttle panel you lose loads of trapped heat :) i've not really had issues with temperature in either of my turbo's but can tell the difference on a really hot day

reminds me of a few days ago. was trying to catch up with my dad who had left in hes car 15mins before.
had the fans on low and cold. as soon as i put my foot down on the motorway the car was filling with hot air. take foot off the throttle and it goes cooler. :cool: must of had a seriously glowly manifold

my airfilter is in front of the gearbox. and just above the bottom of the bumper.
dont think you can get much cooler air and straighter run of pipes

Only problem is it gets dirty rather quick (clean it each oil change)
and when its raining you need to avoid road side puddles like the plague (n)(n)
