well my college is scrapping a 1.2 brava very soon and it did have a good engine when it came in but the cam belt has been on and off a few times without the locking tool used

im guessing there could be a possible be a bent valve at worst case as the engine hasnt been ran

would be be best to take the spark plugs out and turn it over by hand to check if it hits anything, if thats ok do a compression test to see if timing is out massively?

any help would be appreciated on how to check this, quicker the better as were doing a complete strip down and cataloguing a punto :yum:

EDIT its the 1.2 16v super-fire engine

didn't get a good look at it today as i was busy but timing marks are all lined up

asked how much they wanted it for and they said free as long as i pull it out:slayer:

re: slow build 16v cinq

well pulling the engine out tomorrow, anything else worth getting of the bravo before it gets scrapped?

taking engine and anything bolted to it (bar gearbox which has had it)
loom
could get ecu, codebox and ignition barrlel but useless as no key

re: slow build 16v cinq

ok got soem stuff off it today

such as
engine
gearbox (not knackered)
alternator
inlet/exhaust manifolds
engine loom but i belive this is useless to be as its not the same type of ecu or connectors :bang:

needs a load of odd nuts and bolts as some are missing but im not complaining as it was free :D

cinq was taken the the **** out of today when it picked up the engine :( it stopped after i said it beats walking(y)

will get some pictures up soon

the engine seems alot smaller when its out of the car

some of the damage :( the one on the is rounded completely so il have to use a star drive to get em out

re: slow build 16v cinq

been going along slowly with this engine, managed to break two star drive's getting the cam assembly off :bang:

could anyone recommend a good long reach 1/2" star drive set?

re: slow build 16v cinq

If you get the code reader, pickup ring and a key then you can use the ecu for the engine. Also cut off the ecu connector from the other part of the harness.

more wiring yayyyy;)

not the most keen on wiring but im guessing it would be easier to use the punto loom and ecu and make up a connector (like gergor) to connect the two together, as i wouldnt want to mess up the car loom

re: slow build 16v cinq

got a set of ribe from my local dagar tools for dead on £20 so nice

got the head off today, gasket ended up stuck to both sides (n) but bores
were spot on:) all i need to do now is de-coke (carb cleaner?) the head mild port n polish and skim

im unsure on the flywheels here, as far as i know the 1.2 has a 190mm clutch, is this measured by the overall circumference of where the fiction plate touches the flywheel ?

re: slow build 16v cinq

Friction plate.

Port and polish is recomended by me :D.

Fiat heads I wouldn't say are badly casted but are very restricted in my opinion. Removal of the cast marks and opening the chambers up a little will improve flow nicely.

Also Do a port match exhaust side using a genuine fiat gasket (y).

Thanks
