at the beginning of the week i noticed my exhaust was blowing and went to MCC wher it ahd been fitted to get it sorted out as it still had 1 year 6 months of cover. when i got ther an they had a look one of the brackets had fallen off an ther was a hole in my exhaust the size of a two pence piece. they sed the exhaust is not covered because the engine mount was nackered causing the damagew to the exhaust. without the engine mount the exhaust was shakin too much.
i found out that the engine mount was a dealer part only and therefore had t drive all the way from bradford to halifax with exhaust blowin to get the part.
as i think MCC are skanking bastards i used my local garage to fit the engine mount who charged £40. i got the car bk the next day an went bk down t MCC, who charged me £60 to replace two sections of my exhaust. i drove home happily thinkin the nightmare was over but wen i got home the exhaust was still blowin.
i coudlnt take it bk as i had work so after work i was drivin home an i went t the fish shop. wen reversin out of the fish shop my clutch cable snapped an i was stranded. my dad had t cum for me an the car had t b left ther for the nite 7 miles from home. the next day i went up t my local garage again who av then had t tow it bk t ther garage to change the clutch cable costin me £120.
as they say all things cum in threes.

mate gutted.... but by the way changin a clutch cable is a 10 min job an could of been done there an then as long as u have a cable, and a haynes maunal it is easy...

sorry if i have made things worse! at least u shouldnt have to worry about any more bad s**t happenin (touches wood)

it good u alwas got 1 spare but i like gettin me hands dirty gives u a sence of respect and bondin with ya car nowt can beat, might just be me tho :D

plus i like to gain knowledge on how to fix it for next time (y)

I always have a spare and have carried one since first one went in first few months of ownership

I just figure wen you're stuck out on a busy rd on ur own tis always best to ring AA - Ive paid them why not use them - costs me nowt but cost of cable which I usually get for about £8/9 - sure I don't get intimate with car but at least I'm safe as are my lovely nails, hair, clothes etc ;) :D

I have a spare in my boot. Every so often though, I practise my clutchless changes. It's a fine art. Thanks to Pete for teaching me!

yeah you can drive with no clutch cable. i had to do it once in my old cav. just get revs up gently pull back on gear stickand as revs drop the stick will glide into gear. but as guy above sais its when you stop you have prob you have tp turn engine off and then start it gear. but can be done. worth trying incase t happens to you again. is a handy skill to have i think

If you have to start without the clutch, stop the engine and select first. If it won't go in, let the car roll a couple of inches until it will. If it won't roll, open the door and push it back with your foot (assuming you have room!). With the engine off, put the throttle about half way down and turn the key. Let go of the key as soon as it starts - it'll be a bit jerky though - then do the usual clutchless stuff till you get home / safe / to the garage. Best not to do this a lot as it'll put extra strain and wear on everything (except the clutch!)
