hey guys, i have had 3 seicentos now a 899 sx, seicento sporting and now a red seicento abarth sporting thanks to seicento_minto from the forum, i have completely stripped and rebuilt engine and reconditioned or replaced anything needed. just a quick question for you guys, i have been reading the turbo faq, and i want to go low boost for the time being till i get more knowledge on what im doing, just a quick question my abarth is spi, will i need a second injector and a mf2 module? or can i run off standard injector or maybe biger tb? also i have a gt15, and boost pipes, custom made plumbob, anybody here have any pics of a turbo manifold and downpipe for me as im going custom build, also i have read that intercoolers are not necessary on low blow 8v engines, any views please share here, thanks

will get pics posted soon cheers

hmmmm i will be following this rather close as i am planning a low pressure supercharger and its basically the same princible i think and to be honest i would stick a small intercooler on cos cold air is better than hot air for performance

you need a second injector and a way of running it
the list in the FAQ covers the minimum

  • Garrett T15 Turbocharger
  • vAD Custom Exhaust Manifold
  • vAD Custom Stainless Steel Exhaust Down pipe .
  • vAD Stainless Steel Boost Pipe
  • Silicone Connecting Hoses .
  • Steel Braided Oil Feed Line
  • van Aaken MF2 module
  • custom plenum chamber/2nd injector

i see the minimum, so could i not just get away with running 0.3 bar and turning the injector to give more fuel? thanks

Its not just about have more fuel. Its about having the right amount of fuel at the right time. You also need to take into account that the MAP is looking for a vacuum, you are going to be applying positive pressure to it. Fuel cut defender needed.

Read 'Turbo'ing Burple' for pics etc.

Cheers

The main problem is that unlike a normally aspirated engine the fuel delivery map is nothing like linear as the fuelling requirement has an extra dimension - boost.

The MF2 boost switch (it used to be made by microdynamics) is a simple device that switches the 2nd injector on when the boost reaches a given threshold (adjustable on the device) and thereby allowing the engine to provide much more fuel on boost and not over fuel when off boost. Without this you would need an aftermarket ECU that allows you to map fuel delivery against boost (a much more expensive option).

The intercooler is not absolutely necessary but you are going to lose out on power without it. The simple fact is that the turbo is going to get hot and heat the air going through it plus compressing any gas will heat it up anyway so unless you give the induction system some method to reduce the temperature of the gas it will have less and less gas in it for a given volume as things get hot and that means less power, in the end you can find yourself losing power compared to a normally aspirated engine.

so what intercooler would you guys recommend? i need something that isnt guna take too much modifying to fit? thanks and hopefully something i can find at a scrappy, uno turbo?

uno turbo in a scrappy yeah right if you find one it will be a shell or a pile of rust lol have a think about a peugeot 405 tdi as it had a small intercooler mounted on the top of the engine but it should be small enough to mount at the front with out too much trouble or failing that i am sure the mk1 mondeo tdi had a small intercooler too oo oo oo the shogun did i am sure

also would like to ask, wanted to put a p75 cam in as have already bought but wondered, will the cams need moving replacing, or would it be a straight swap? thanks also is the timing the same? thanks

Not 100% sure what you mean in that last question but the camshaft itself is a straight swap. The procedure you need to worry about is the shims that sit in the valve buckets, these will almost definitely need replacing to get the correct clearance between the camshaft and the valves.

If you do go to a scrappy to get an intercooler make sure it is only a small one (the intercooler that is) and that it doesn't leak air. A lot of cars in the yard will likely have popped the seals on the intercooler or taken stone chip damage. The quick test is cap one end of the intercooler and fill it with water - if it leaks it is completely useless

quick question for you guys, got the dashboard fully unbolted as wanted to high lift primer it and paint white, but have gotten stuck as took steering wheel off and dials but how do i take the indicator lever andwiper lever off? if anyone knows that would be immense, thanks btw i have already unclipped all the connectors behind. cheers.

the whole dash?you know thats gonna flare in the sun like you staring into a searchlight

i know lol but its gotta look cool dont it? :p al just wear sunglasses :D

it's been done before, and i don't recall anyone that left it like that.

It's not a case of wearing sunglasses. When you look out the windscreen, all you can see is the reflection of the dashboard in it. It's not that it is blinding, it just prevents you from seeing out.

Try it with some paper first.

Yup its not very practical! Burples dash is ivory coloured, but leather so not shiney, but its still reflects slightly on the windscreen in sunny weather. Takes a bit of getting used too, but luckily we dont get much sun in scotland ;)

I cant even imagine the problems a shiney white one would cause! Burpes dash surround is shiney, and when the light hits it from an angle and it flips to the baby green colour, it reflects vividly on the windscreen. Not so easy to see past.

For a show car, then go for it! If you like to see out in the summer, try flocking or suede type material instead :)
