Sei 899 75K on clock , Symptoms are : Oil leak at rocker box and minimal oil in air filter . Fitted new rocker gasket yesterday and there is no oil leak there now , but having sorted external leak there is now blue smoke out of exhaust (by the bucket load when accelerating)also there is a bit more oil in the air filter box . Never had a problem with smoke before so is this a no hoper ? Any suggestions would be welcome , Thanks

Hi , Thanks for your quick reply Whitz , Much appreciated , I think its just when I Accelerate but I will look tomorrow on the way to work (37 miles ! here's hopin ) Hopefully it won't pack in until I can recommence working on it at the weekend , although my confidence level is not very high after seeing a blue tunnel in my rear view earlier tonight , although meantime I might get a few pointers in the right direction as it's not good when time and money is spent doing an unnecessary fix . Tomorrow I will post up any new Hiccups / symptoms . Thanks again ..

i wouldn't recommend driving it as it would probably so some damage and annoy other road users

but if you are going to drive it check the engine oil, alot

Yes maybe haphazard but a: Transport to my work (much needed)
b: If it goes , at least I know for sure what went ?
c: I hope it doesn't rain in the middle of nowhere ,lol .

Taking a 2L carton of oil with me . cheers again. will log in tomorrow after getting a bus timetable for Wednesday probably !

Hi Guy's , Thanks again for your input .

So this morning I drove the 17mls to work, the sei was going fine until 8 or 9 miles along the motorway I saw the blue haze appearing and for the next 8mls it followed me to work, the funny thing is it drives ok and the sneaks up on me like some blue cloak of doom ! Now I assume that it is getting well up to temp before the nonsense commences.
I went to the supermarket tonite about 2 hrs later and drove 4mls there and back with no probs visually or performance wise ?
I am trying to run it until half day on friday to see if it's maybe something that could clear ( would an engine flush be worthwhile ? ) or give me more symptoms to think about or pinpoint the problem as I will then have time to work on it or make a decision regarding another engine or car but , I would prefer to keep the sei for a good while yet . Any further advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated ..

When was the oil last changed and what grade are you using?

Hi , I=Last Oil + Filter change about 2 Years ago , oil Quality has been good and topped up regular > Tesco 10/40 semi synthetic . Other Probs / replacements have been Stat and Crank sensor in the last few years. Hope this enlightens you . Thanks for your support on this ..

Get that oil and filter changed immediately, the filter will be clogged solid.

A flush would be a good idea.

You can get proprietary gum solvents for engines with hydraulic tappets, they will remove all the gum you probably have every where in the engine. Pour in and run for 10 minutes at tick over, easy to do.

After you drain the oil, before you remove and replace the filter, I'd refill with cheap oil, run for 5 minutes and drain this replace the filter and replace with the normal 10-40. People always used to do this in the past.

As well the breather pipes can gum up independent of the engine dependent upon the duty cycle of the usage. You can remove and run an oil solvent through them.

There is a maintenance schedule if you don't follow it the little car will be more expensive than otherwise.

Thanks Guy's , 1 : Oh well Day 3 and the sei is still hanging on in there , Yes I will take all this advice and go for plan B , So it's Gum Solvent / Flush / Cheap oil flush then Good oil + New Filter . I fitted new plugs last week and I know that they will be mingin so a I'll give them a face lift . Also can anyone advise me on the gasket on the carb , I took apart the carb to get in to the rocker studs and there is a plate that goes on top of the O ring with a gasket on it , this was not in a fit state for what it was intended for so due to the fact that there were no motor factors open I siliconed on top of the plate, can someone tell me what this part is officially called so I can order one also performance wise , how would I know if the silicon is a botch job ?

2 : It never rains but it pours > a chip on my windscreen has turned into a crack how is the job to do as in : removing at scrappy's and then fitting on mine .
p.s. should I be using separate posts for different problems . Thanks for all advice ..

You don't have a carb, its a throttle body, but never mind, its the throttle body O ring you need, Fiat or Fluffy.

The screen on a Sei is bonded so its a cut out and restick job. The rubber is just a finisher.

Hi rallycinq , The O ring was ok but when I pulled at the throttle body a plate fell out which had quite a thick gasket on it and I think by the shape of it that it sat on top of the O ring with the gasket showing on top .
Regarding the windscreen > So it is quite a dooable task to replace so I might just patch it up and locate one at the scrappy . Thanks for your time and suggestions ..

The seis have bonded screens chances are youll destroy it getting it out of what ever motor you can find at the tat yard...
You could do a diesel flush rather than flushing oil and de gumming stuff ill take a look back on the forum and put a link in my next post... It wouldnt go a miss to get 3 maybe 4 filters depending on how many times you will need to flush and when they come in at about 3.50 it wouldnt be a bad thing... If your existing filter is blocked solid its certainly no good to man, beast or motor i strongly suggest changing filter with every flush then you will know your catching any **** your trying to get out. I little more money spent now could save you goosing your car

as for the blue smoke sounds like a blokage to me personally i wouldnt expect to see it on acceleration if it were suspect valve guide seals only on overrun/throttle shut off. As said check breathers

Thanks for your invaluable advice Richy , More and more pointing to a blockage ? haven't tried a Diesel flush so any tips/link would be really useful on this matter , I remember years ago flushing ny motorcycle engine to good effect but I forget how I went about it .
