Hi would anybody happen to know what is Involved in the removal of the heater matrix from a 2001 Y plated Sporting? Im aiming at removing it on Monday and im looking for a few pointers in the right direction...:)

Cheers!!

Start from the engine bay, and there is like sound proofing, just take the right hand side off. (opposite side from the header tank).

then the whole thing will be revealed!

Are you saying I dont need to dig out the dash to replace the matrix rad? Ive taken a look at whats behind the firewall/sound proofing and I can see the main unit body with the two heater pipes. Do i just take the body apart and remove the rad unit from under the bonnet? Cheers!! :)

The two pipes go straight into the matrix.

What im trying to say is, can I remove the matrix from under the bonnet? :)

It looked possible on mine with the battery out.
The two pipes pull out from the assembly with o ring seals, so make shure they are clean on re-assembly with a little silicon grease/lube on them.

Ok Thanks, but why would I need to remove the battery?

iv litrally just done this lol, i removed all the heater matrix, housings, fan, wring ect.

basicly its been explained above but ill just clarify

- remove battery, (so you can acces screws)

- remove felt sound proofing stuff. 6 screws along the rubber bit where the pipes go in, and another 6 (i think) holding the felt down along the top/bottom, the felt will lift out in 2 pieces.

youll now be able to see the full assemboly, the matrix is view able on the left (drivers) side of the black plastic at the back, you may want to drain the system, at least part way, befor removing the pipes from th matrix

- remove 2 pipes and two posi screws from the yellow/white/cream plastic and itll slide out.

if you want to remove the full thing (matrx housing/fan) you need to dissconnect all the linkages from the dials befor you can remove it fully. also a tip, the full matrix plastic housing wont come out as a one as it fouls on the wiper linkages, so youll need to split it in two, think it was 8 screws each in a more difficult to reach place.

I just finished pulling the lot out and now I realise I didnt need to..I even removed the wipers and the linkages..and I mean everything! :bang:

I was a right pain to remove the complete unit and I only hope it goes back together ok. Im a bit concerned about getting the control cables fitted to the correct control knob.

im not planning on putting mine bk in so let me know if youv broken anythin iv got the full thing as spares.

the wires are tight. only tip i can give really is to fit the fan/matrix end 1st then the dials 2nd.
