Hi Folks - another newbee here!

Just been told that we may have blown the ECU in my daughter's Seicento Sporting (2001Y) when bump starting it

Any pointers/advice or can I pick one up cheap somewhere?

Car starts fine but has very little power (like you're driving along in 4th gear when you should be in 2nd, if that makes sense)

Yes sounds like classic symptomns for an ECU failiure.

If the H/W # on the ECU is less than 100, it is an early ECU so very prone to faliure.

The new ones eradicated the problem with a new Siemens processor (instead of a Motorola) and redesigned coil drivers (what makes the ECU fail).

Should be around the £200 from Fiat for a recon'd unit. I'd go for a Fiat one personally, the ones online I'm not so sure have all the updates are just rebuilt.

Back again!

Can anyone tell me if I buy a reconditioned or 2nd-hand ECU, do I have to buy the locking system & keys as well?

Just something I stumble across whilst phoning around for quotes.

Yes, unless it's been re-programmed to accept the old keys or the immobiliser immobilised. For that reason, getting yours reconditioned may be the best bet.

But, before you do that, I'd try the old start the car up at night with the bonnet open, look for blue flashes trick and either testing, or swapping out, the coil packs.

Thanks again for the very useful info folks!

Does any one know where I can get the ECU reconditioned?

Cheers
Fee

Just a quick word to thank you guys for all your help! (y) Little 'Sonny' is now back on the road and running like little sweetie! :D Pity my 17-year-old daughter is embarrassed driving it........ (size, colour etc). How many times do we have to tell her that it's such a cool wee car!!

Well, until I next need some sound advice, it's thanks again!

Cheers
Fiona
