Hi. I took of the cylinder head of my Cinq Sporting. It had issues that it would overheat for me. With or without the thermostat it would still overheat and the water pump was changed. Did a compression test and one cylinder was weak... The results when the cylinder head was removed, the head gasket was ok... Not thorn or anything but there was a weak point in the weak cylinder which the test had resulted.

I am fine with that, what is wondering me is that the valves are all black, even the surroundings of the values, Apart from that the cylinders are black too...

Is this normal?

Going to get the Head skimmed too.

Ok ok... Thanks for your reply. Will it be difficult to clean so that I will tell my mechanic to do so if its not a big job...

Fine with that. Tomorrow I will call him and check that he does it. I will upload some photos of the block and cylinderhead. I would like to know how......

I have uploaded the photos. Managed.

Do you think by skimming the head and fitting a new head gasket it will solve this issue of the cylinder burning some oil?
In fact when I started the car in the morning, White smoke use to come out from the silencer. The oil comsumption was high too. After 6 months I had to fill the car with oil as on the dipstick it would result to be low.

Thanks.

my cylinders even in standard form have always been pretty carbon free with just a nice tanned colour. guess it depends on what the car is used for (motorway runs usually break/burn carbon up) and fuel quality and even how well its looked after.

have you checked the bore on the weak cylinder for deep scratches or marks
