Hi there,

my son's cinq no longer starts. It's turning over fine, but there just seems to be no spark. We've checked all fuses, batteries fully charged and all the spark plugs seem to be working. Any ideas?

Cheers.

Crank sensor is probably the favorite. A very common problem.

Have you checked spark on both coil packs?
You could possibly have a coil gone down.

Personally, i would take the fuel hose off a check for fuel that way. Dont like looking down throttle bodies when your car may fire at the wrong time!

I would rather be safe then sorry!

If you spin the engine and then remove the air filter i.e. just the filter the assemble should reek of petrol, if it does not TDC.

If you are brave try a spray of coldstart, if it starts with coldsart and then stops the TDC is kaput.

If it starts and runs ok the TDC is intermittent, and you should replace immediately. Not really sure why the TDC is no good on a starter, but ok running

But you may damage the head gasket, the cold start Diesels, not designed to do that...

Cheers for adivce but both coil packs have been test and are both working. And we swapped over the TDC censor with our other cinq and that isn't the problem either!! Any other suggestions?

I took the cinq to a friends garage, plugged it into the ECU analyser and it is reporting a Code Error - with both coil packs and fuel disabled. So I need to get the keys remapped to the ECU. I have two blue keys and the red key. Any ideas who can do this and how much they'd charge? We're near Haywards Heath in Sussex.

Disconnect the battery for a few hours, touch the battery lead terminals together to discharge any capacitors, then retry with the red key.

If not, call your motoring organisation, they have the kit to do it.

Cheers

IF THE PROBLEM IS A LOST CODE YOU CAN RECODE THE KEYS YOURSELF.

First if it is a code problem you will have a amber key symble flashing on your dash.
also you should be able to start you car using the red key
If this is the case then you will be able to recode the blue keys yourself

You must have all three keys at hand, (two blue one red)

1.Insert the red key and turn to mar i.e. the possision before the car starts.
Let the amber light flash once only, and switch off THIS IS IMPORTANT

2.Remove the red key and insert the first blue key, turn to mar Let the amber light flash once only and switch off.

3. Remove the first blue key and insert the second blue key, turn to mar Let the amber light flash once only and switch off.

4. Remove the second blue key and insert the red key, turn to mar Let the amber light flash once only and switch off.

You have about six to ten seconds between each key change any longer and it may not take the code

If you have been sucssesful the next time you turn on your ignition using blue kes only the amber light should be on for just a few seconds and then go out if it is still flashing then you will have to start from the begining.

hope this helps
Ron
