Hi guys,

For those of you that don't know me i have took my 98 Cinquecento off the road as iam using it as a track car although its not finished yet but iam getting there and a new fuel tank is next on my list,

My question is iam away to remove the stock fuel tank and replace it with a small alloy one inside the car so i need a new in-line primer pump as the stock pump that is fitted to the stock tank will not fit down into my new tank,

Could anyone point me in the right direction of what to buy and what spec iam going to need??

I have been looking and found this one but iam not sure it will be OK??although i think it will??

Thanks all the best Scuderia

Hi Scuderia,

Firstly, do you really need to remove the stock tank? They are not that big and are very low to the ground.

I am just finishing my Sei Track car. there are a load of pics you might want to see https://www.fiatforum.com/cinquecento-seicento/207627-my-seicento-back-road.html

If yor cinq is still on single point injection, then it should be a 1 bar pump. They are high flow and low pressure.

The pump you have found should be fine. However i dont think there is any benefiit from having a smaller tank higher up than the standard one.

I lookied at it and though best to stick with the standard one, as i prefer to keep highly flammable liquids as far away from me as possible! I like the concerpt of me inside the car and flammable stuff on the other side of a nice big sheet of metal!

Hi signwerx

You have some good points there so i will have to think again:eek::D although that said a good tank fitted right in a good location should be OK:eek:? but motorsport does come with a warning,

Yeah i have spi at the minute but i could well be changing the engine to mpi 16v next year?? not 100% on that as yet so i guess if i do that this pump will be no good??

The tank i have been looking at is a 10L tank made from alloy so there has to be weight savings there and iam trying to get as much of the weight down as i can and as much as the stock tank is smallish its still tin and would weight twice as much maybe even 3 times as the new tank,

Thanks for your help and advice (y)

Nice car by the way loving it:cool:(y)

Cheers Scuderia

Low down weight is not too much of a problem. Lets face it, the weight of the tank is very small compared with the weight of the fuel!

I put the battery in the back of the passenger footwell. Again, smaller battery and weight as low as possible.

If you go MPI, you will need a 3 bar pump. With the standard tank, you can swap the internal pump within the housing very easily. Search for 3 bar pump and there will be loads of instructions.

I couldnt decide for ages about the tank, but there are much better things to spend your hard earned money on if you want a good track car.

I have spent the last two years slowly building mine and a year before that thinking about it!

I am really happy with the way it has come together, but now thinking about how to get another 20% more horsepower out of the 1.2 mpi engine.

If you are going to spend 100quid on the tank for example, buy a set of punto gt calipers and discs for front and rear. that will give you a much better return on your spend.
