Hi all, currently trying to start the car, and we have a wiring problem which i think could be possibly be down to the fiat 'code' system....

Hopefully someone on here may know what the fault is.

Simply between the battery terminal connections (without the battery being in place) we get no contact between the two terminals.

Upon putting the key in the ignition and turning the key to the 1st click, we are getting a connection between the power and earth terminals.

On every positive point on the car we have checked, it faults to earth.

Visual inspection on all wires, and everything seems to be correctly wired.. (its been removed and refitted 3 times)...

We think that the code system may be preventing the wiring to work correctly, and not sure how to get around it, as we dont have the fiat ECU connected... so im thinking that if it was connected, the key would activate the wiring by some sort of switch, and not throw up a connection between 12+ and earth.

Can anyone advise?

Or can anyone give a quick guide to the wiring side of the IGN barrel, as there must be a way of manually wiring it so it works. Or is there any way of bypassing the code thing?

The fiat code box interfaces with the Fiat ecu, and nothing else.

Therefore if don't have the Fiat ECU you don't have the code box in circuit, so I don't think its anything to do with the code box.

I don't understand your test procedure.

Cheers

The test procedure is simply checking that the contact between earth and 12v doesnt happen as its a dead short..

I would have thought the immob would have controlled something on the barrel, or immob some circuits of the fuse box as we are using most of the fiat wiring to keep the lights horn etc.

Its as if the barrel is negative switching when it should be pos switched

Took that box out just incase..

The interior light wont turn off at all, unless the doors are closed (as in when you push the light to turn it off.. it doesnt...)

Is this a normal thing for a sei, or do we have a fault on that circ?

the code system doesn't prevent the starter from turning, just prevents the ECU from 'unlocking' and allowing fuel and spark to happen.

it does not intercept any of the wires on the ignition barrel, or anywhere else.

it's a mk1 sei, isn't it. what remains of the OEM loom? There is a main power connector that sits beneath the battery tray. This takes the +ve feed for the dash etc. If that isn't there, you'll get no power to the body loom. Doesn't explain the fault to earth though. Where is the new engine loom getting power from?

We kept the fuse box in the engine bay, but its now located in the car. We have removed the engine wires from the old loom, but kept everything else.

The fault to earth was down to the interior light and the coil in the starter not being energised, so going straight to earth...

Its all working fine, other than our horn, but thats minor lol
