The problem is as follows: the fuel tank on my 99 Seicento Sporting was replaced because was rusted and leaking. New tank fitted. I made a full refill and the problem appeared. Even if the tank is full, the fuel gauge on the dash will only point ~ 1/2 of the level (like I had only half of the tank filled with fuel). And will stay in that position until half of the tank will be used (~ 300 km), an after that, it starts to move counter-clockwise (as normal) and indicates the correct level. I repeated a few times the full refill and this was the behaviour... it is like something is not letting the gauge to move further the 1/2 level on the dash. But the problem is not on the dash side.... is somewhere in the tank. In the fuel pump i suppose. Does anybody have any clues how can I fix'it?

Its normal, even the UK car fuel guages are the same, depending on the gradient of hill depends on the amount of petrol the car will have :D

There isnt a lot you can do about it, there isnt a 'fix' as such, UK members just get on with it.

The best thing to do is use your tripmeter as an indicator rather than the guage, run as low as you dare, then brim it and reset your trip

I think you didn't understand my problem. My problem are not the hills....
The problem is that the fuel gauge is "stucked" somewhere in the middle even with the tank full. And the problem appeared ONLY AFTER a fuel-tank replace.

I think fingers99 is suggesting removing the carpet and removing the insection panel and looking at the float...

fingers...?

Adding a big dose of Redex (injector cleaner) might work instead, if it is stuck on gunge. You wont find any one more lazy than me.

K, I'll try with some injector cleaner first. If this will not fix the problem than I shall try to open the tank. Just to be sure... is there any danger when working in the back of the car with the diamond shape cover removed?

sory for late reply - how did you fixed this?? I have new tank too, and seems I have same trouble - I have some 25L +/- and showing only half(the new tank's height looks lower than the old one (I have to push fuel pump "top" harder to screw than in old tank)).

Any ideas??
