Possibly the petrol tank? Generally you can see the leak from under the car or as stickyness on the bottom surface of the tank. They usually go at the seam, often on the filler side.

A timely thread!

I noticed a petrol smell a week or so ago after the wife had filled up - I put it down to her sloppyness but as the smell has lingered I had a look and feel this afternoon and low and behold there is a black sticky petrol leak on the tank - filler side.

This is on my Sei (sorry to hijack the thread a little but I thought no point starting another petrol leak related)

It seems to be leaking from around the seal area however having had a feel the tank itself feels corroded as highlighted by the red arrow and the “seal” bit highlighted by the yellow arrow in the pic seems to be massively rusty and flakey right around the tank.

So what are my options – I presume replace the tank, so do they do new tanks?

And if not does that mean a trip to the scrappy?

What is a rough cost for new (if available and if so where from - Fiat? – I’ve had a quick search online and can’t find anyone selling them new)

And is it a fairly simple job or a garage job - I’ve no access to ramps – just a trolley jack and axel stands.

Thanks
hutchie

p.s sorry for the tiny pic - I can't get it to enlarge - obviously it does when clicked!

Easy enough job to do diy with axle stands and a jack, usual caveat of make sure its properly stable before getting underneath.

Plus gas the bolts for a few days before starting the job, particularly the rear ones.

Exhaust can be swung out the way on the flexi so only remove the rubbers.

Remove the tank top fittings throiugh the diamond shaped hole under the back seats.

Buy new tank from Fluffy the Impaler, mention FiatForum for discount. Join Clubcento for bigger discount.

Make sure the tank is really empty before starting.

Cheers

Use long plastic hose from Halfords as syphon, dont suck it out either...

Dont smoke.

i've got a slight smell of petrol on mine, but i think like rallycinq said, it evaporates quickly and leaves a darker patch on the bottom of the tank, might have to source a new one sometime!

there was a recal on cinq/seis for the tanks. they were all changed free of charge. yours might not have fallen into the recall, but its worth asking about it.
