Hi I need to replace the door check strap, on sporting sei, how is the door card removed, or is is doable without removel?

Noel

Pull it off - gently. It's fitted using some sort of plastic plugs and they can be quite the PITA.

The door card itself is made from quite thin plywood (or the likes. Don't know what it's called in English) and the plastic buggers can be very hard to get to let go. Therefore I'm looking for a replacement right door card for my own Sei, lol.

I can almost guarantee its not the strap thats causing the noise.

It is usually the roll pin that retains the outer end of the strap on the door check that is worn, allowing it to clack back and forward when the check strap operates.

I am pretty sure the check strap comes off from the outside, so you need to remove the roll pin to get at it anyway.

Cheers

The noise (and movement) is indeed coming from the roll pin end of the strap but the pin does not look worn I'll try removing it partially, & report..

The works keeps roll pins.

the word may be 'hard board' it is compressed paper I think, and will revert given any excuse.

Thanks a bunch :D I don't know if it sounds silly but expanding my English vocabulary is my main hobby. Well, apart from pulling the Sei apart when needed.

I think I'll need to replace the roll pins as well - both doors a creaking a bit.

LoL, on a sidenote... Don't even know the Danish term for 'roll pin'!

Well it is a change to find any Sc person who does not know all our nouns. I get so depressed when their English is better than mine.

Set English as preference in Google, and google "roll pin" + dictionary

this gets you...

'Roll pin A split, tube-like pin made of spring steel for retaining disc pads, gears to shafts in gearboxes, etc.'

I just spent a few minutes digging through my memory... Went down to the car to take a look only to find it's what we call a 'split'. I wasn't sure exactly what the thing looked like, lol. Never considered something that simple could be the culprit.

Watching TV, listening to music, playing computer games + school... we're basically spoon-fed two languages from day one. In addition English and Danish are very alike apart from the pronounciation.
I see your point. Loving to learn and somewhat perfect the use of languages I get depressed when I meet Danes who are way better at English than their native language.

Hi that is worrying

split pin
n a metal pin made by bending double a wire, often of hemispherical section, so that it can be passed through a hole in a nut, shaft, etc., to secure another part by bending back the ends of the wire

A roll pin is different, it needs to be "pushed in" it is only used when an interference fit is needed, you dont have split pins in the door jam?

Noel

Roll pins - no split pins.

Didn't say Danish made sense, lol.

We call them both splits, regardless. Think I just found out why so many people struggle learning the language - now wondering how the h*ll I learnt it!

Where can i get a roll-pin to suit? This is one of the few things that bothers me about my car.

Two easy ways

get the Fiat check strap kit, it comes with a new roll pin, fluffy the impaler time...

Or drive out the old pin, but first tie a strong string to seat and to door so it does not open futher than normal, it will cause real damage otherwise. Replace with a large split pin, temporarily, which is easy to get, it desirably shouild be a resonable fit.

you need two hammers, one hammer wrapped with heavy rag, placed above pin carrier, other hammer hits pin from below..., or mole grips, one jaw wrapped in heave rag...

Take old roll pin to engineering shop and they will sell you a clone of the old roll pin, or give you one if you look poor enough.

Well, in times of economic difficulty i feel warm in side when i know i've lined the pockets of someone else.

Rip off

I drove to motor factors and picked through a box of roll pins until I found a near clone 0.50 GBP. But the origonal did not look damaged apart from smear of insertion or removal.

And the replacement (or origonal) was impossible to insert as the strap dissappeared into the door, and I could not pull it back out far enough, so Ive ordered the Fiat part as a door strap failure normally damages two panels badly.

Gave the strap fastners a dose of plus gas, waiting for part...

Noel

Put electrical scredriver through hole in strap.

Use needle nose pliers to pull it out.

Once out, remove screwdriver and firmly attach mole grips so it can't disappear again.

Then fit roll pin.

As an asides, make sure the strap holder is tightly attached to door.

Cheers
