While under the car the other day i realised why i use sooo much screen wash..

There's a slight leak from the washer bottle.

Are they one piece units or can they be 'serviced'?

Edit, bottle & bootle. I can spell, just thinking of that wonderful place . . . ;)

If it is the hose then get a new section from halfords. if it is the motor seal then you probably need to remove resevoir (to get it surgically clean) and replace the current seal with RTV, i.e. instant gasket.

I had only blue tack to hand so really bodged and sold the car forgetting to tell the buyer...

Pep0, thanks for that addition. My partner's cinq had an argument with a bollard which at the time didn't seem to have done anything, but we've since replace the rad, and I've just removed the defunct fan and leaking water bottle (I had previously spent an hour on my back unsuccessfully stuffing hermetite (all I had (like the blue tack idea btw)) all over the motor area.

Where would I get rtv?

Do the motors come away from the bottle?

RTV is the generic name for instant gasket, fish tank cauk, sink sealer, etc. - room temperature vulcanising, get tube from Halfords

I think the cinq ones are on rubber seals, but you should be able to get genric ones to fit if you need to replace - again halfords, but dont disturb them as new hoses and a new non return valve may be all you need.

Or breakers yard if your are poor...

If the resevoir is badly damaged breakers yard...

Hi, I only finished taking the bottle out sunday night but on a quick look it seems to be dripping from round one of the motors, which is why I'm not sure whether to try rtv on it, or get a new bottle. The motors don't look like they'd detach to me.

Quite often its the hose from the pump thats split.

Cheers

A new resevoir from FIAT or e-bay impressively expensive.

If you are sure the pump seal is leaking - fine metal saw it off, measure diameter of hole and get a nearest fit in Hafords, clean hole with meths and instant gasket the new pump in place leave 24 hours to cure in airing cupboard, away from kids. Normally it is the little hose that leaks.

You need a long tool to form the gasket inside the resevoir, so it will never leak...

My problem with a metro was I only used blue tack and forgot and sold it to a neighbour, he sold the metro to some one else before I recalled, but I'd still not recommend blue tack.

[edit] yes the Metro was push fit as well, instant gasket will be sealed for life, or craft knofe, thanks David...

I had what seemed to be a leaky washer bottle on mine. It looked to be coming from the pump but was actually the pipe. The pipe had split where it slides onto the pump so was leaking. As a short term fix I just cut the split end off and pushed it back on. I probably should get some new pipe but it works fine at the minute :)

The generic motors, plastic hose and generic non return valves are so cheap it is simplest to zero life the inaccessible bits as they may (always_) fail on a dark wet night (50 miles from home and nice warm bed).

The metro water bottle was accessible with the bonnet open, the sei is impossibly difficult, without ramps.

Flushing out crud is a good idea as well.

Was under the car today to have a look.

As suggested, the hose was buggered, but also the motor body was leaking. Popped it apart and i've got one of THESE on order. Expensive, but not much else on offer (apart from a second hand unit).

Will see how it goes.

Hmm

Unless the motor is dead I'd not fit a new OEM pump, the OEM will fit the cable loom terminations if a motor were dead, but a RTV gasket is better quality than the OEM gasket, e.g. there ia a RTV rubber gasket on the water pump.

The only real advantage of the OEM pump is you can replace it is situ, (well with ramps or stands, or a friendly kerb stone) in a few minutes.

If I may add a bit to this water bottle saga thread, I tried fixing it on the orginal bottle by spraying on waxyol. That didn't seem to last for very long so I today swapped the bottle out for a new secondhand one. Now the water is getting pumped so far, but not all the way to the spray nozzles on the bonnet.

On the driver's side (this is a Cinq btw) under the bonnet is the water tube, and towards the bulkhead the pipe is joined by a widget. The water's not making it across this small widget, which has a circle and an arrow in it. I am guessing this is a filter of some sort? And maybe some waxoyl has bunges it up? What is the proper name for this widget?
