Re: Gear knob how does it come off????

what cinq is it if it is an 899 then it just pulls off with loads of effort and a hammer etc, but if it is a sporting then from what i understand it has to be cut off.

Re: Gear knob how does it come off????

On sporting, the knob is moulded as part of the push down reverse mechanism, so doesn't come off without cutting. i wouldnt advise this as its a pain in the arse findin one to fit afterwards. i did it , then ended up buying a brand new one from fiat for £40. waste of cash.... i think so.

Its easier to re trim the existing one, take off the leather (u'll have to cut the stitching), use this as a template to cut whatever material ure gonna use, then crack out the old needle and thread. piece of piss if u can sew, if not get mother to do it.

Hi Fuct_it_up - sorry to hear you fu3ked it up but I guess its part of the joy of ownership with Cinqs!! If you take the nut that holds the reverse mech moulding off, the whole lot lifts off - but you are right, it has to be cut off. I got a lump of aluminium in work and made this, but it took a bit of work (including cutting down the gear shaft) to get it all working properly. The finished version is two inches shorter than standard and the throw is a little shorter, but the effect is good overall.
