I changed our blown head gasket using the guides here and a Haynes manual. They made life easy. If you haven't got a Haynes then buy one before you do the stuff to your car.
If you have basic mechanical knowledge and skill then do it yourself.
Cam belt is fiddly but not difficult. They are only £15 max so worth replacing whilst you are there. Do the tensioner too.
You can't do much damage as the engine is non contact. So the valves and pistons can't hit each other if the belt gets put on wrong. Because of this the Cinq 1108cc is a great engine on which to learn the basics.
I'm by no means a mechanic but I did with it no problems. Ask if you need advice. Everyone here seems super friendly.
