hi people am making my cinq a turbo cinq got most stuff sorted out but i need to find out where and how i can get an oil feed from the engine to the turbo and also a return i know that the return goes to the sump and the feed comes from somewhere around the oil filter so could some one fill me in and maybe tell me where i could find a few pics or diagrams that would help me.

there is a grub screw type thing on the oil pump its removed with a 8mm or so allen key

There are two prts on the oil pump, the bottom one is pressurised so goes to the turbo.

Gravity is used to return the oil to the sump, drill the side of the sump and attach the return pipe fitting to it.

I knew nothing of this a week ago. Amazing what you can learn in a week!!

Top one is filtered, so thats the one you want to the turbo. Bottom is also pressurised, but is pre filter, so any crap bits of junk in the sump kill the turbo.

Interesting, I am fitting the Van AAken low boost kit and the pipe supplied only fits the bottom one, top one is a different size.

that's odd, i wasn't aware they were different sizes. suggest new adaptor, to allow the use of filtered oil.

I use the top outlet
As far as i know this is the one to go for.

Both outlets are the same size on the filter housing but you can also take the oil feed from the oil pressure takeoff which is a different size

ah the selcta engine is slightly different, i remember way back when and bushboy was having fun fitting the alternator on one of them.

I also had what you describe as 'fun' fitting the alternator. I still cry at the thought.

I'd still put 99% on it that the top one is filtered, so i'd find an adapter to run it from there. Don't pressume Van Aaken did it all right

what would be wrong with using a sandwich plate on the oil filter, to supply the turbo and then oil cooler, at the same time?

space, lack of it. you'd need a remote oil filter kit on there first.

im still trying to get to grips with all of this turbo conversion stuff, theres loads of things to think about

so... you say space? what if space wasnt an issue? The way i had it worked out in my head was: filter sandwich plate>oil line>turbo>oil line>oil cooler>oil line>back to sandwich plate.


or is there a bigger reason why this wouldnt work? i thought there was enough room on cinqs to do this. all the pics of tubby cinqs ive looked at i thought it could be done.
So... if you had the turbo manifold made up to give plenty space for the sarnie plate and filter combo, then theres no negatives against using this method, rather than having to put holes in the sump for a return line?....

oil from the turbo has to go back to the sump, gravity fed, under no pressure. if you cause ANY restriction in the oil return then it will force oil past the turbo seals and smoke like a biatch. i also wouldn't cool oil that was on the way to anywhere but the sump either. (might overcool it before it goes through something like, the turbo)

so its definitely a holey sump job then

yeah.. but thats not exactly a challenging thing to do

if we are talking about the 16v, then you need to take the gearbox and flywheel off as well. And when we took apart my spare engine, we had to butcher the old sump to get it off... Now i wonder, does the 16v engine have the same blanked-off oil feed on the pump as the 8v? sounds like it would be better to feed the turbo off the blanked bit and oil cooler through a thermostatic sandwich plate....

If you read what i said earlier it is possible to T into the oil pressure sender outlet to supply the turbo oil feed , then use the sandwich plate for oil cooler or remote filter if you have no room for the filter in stock position.
