is it just me or is this stuff a load of arse?

i filled my cinq up with Optimax (which cost me about 8 quid more than it would with normal petrol) and noticed no difference in acceleration .. all that i did notice is that a full tank lasted me 3 days trips to work and back where as a full tank of normal unleaded has seen me for just shy of 2 weeks (where i eventually ran out at a set of lights...)

optimax hates cinqs

A higher octane petrol wouldn't do any good in a small and simply designed engine. I believe I read it was designed with VVTI in mind?

I can't explain that regarding if nothing else changed, I really can't *holds up hands and shrugs*

eight quid more a tank? It's about 10p more a litre than Supermarket unleaded, so £3.50 extra - max - a tank full. Optimax may offer slightly smoother running, but not really a noticeable power gain. I seem to get 3-4 mpg more on Optimax so I'd suggest you may have problems elsewhere.

well i get superb mpg on standard unleaded from total heh... my fave garage... a normal tank takes about 22 quid to fill my cinq up .. took about 29-30 to fill this tank up... but anyway... price doesnt matter heh

running wasnt noticably different... only thing that was different was the mpg.

My mate and his 1.1 Micra really rates the stuff. many people love it too. I'm yet to bite the bullet and fork out for the stuff

my cinq ran no better either when running on optimax and my brothers tuned corsa 1.4 uses the same amont of optimax in half the time it uses the normal unleaded but it did make a very slight difference in take off as it cleans etc.

also cinqs seem to hate (well mine anyway) Nitrox hot shots tried the £7 bottle in my cinq and it mad a very noticeable difference to take of to the extent that i totaly lost the car behind me but only for about 5-10 seconds and ever since using that stuff my engine has never been as good or as fast on pull off or top end it seems to have damaged something but i cant figure out what.

I run both my punto 1.2 mpi and my UNO Turbo on OPTIMAX and will never go back to standard unleaded unless its a last resort.

Found acceleration slightly improved, especially in the punto and actually seems to last longer- full tank of unleaded would last 7-10 days to and from work, but Optimax lasts 12-14 days ?

I have used it in't Sei,but not to any noticeable effect. But it makes a huge difference in the bike tho,on std ron95, it pinks like mad.But on Optimax ,no pinking at all! :D So it does summat! :)

I've used Optimax once, in a fit of extravagance! Not much more expensive in my opinion, and although theres no perceptable increase in performance, the little Sei did seem to accelerate more smoothly. Just remember, the Japanese get higher octane fuel as standard! Doh.

I use Optimax in my Stilo Abarth and really rate it - it should not harm any car and remember it may take more than just one tank to really feel any benefit. I have also used BP Ultimate but I prefer Optimax I felt the Ultimate didn't give the same smoothness. I've yet to try Optimax in my 1.1 Panda - which is probably closer to a Cinq engine.

Everyone, optimax won't have any effect on Cinq or Sei as they don't have what’s called a Knock Sensor. The knock sensor in effect adjusts the timing according to what fuel you use thus giving a cleaner burn and more power.

The reason behind optimax is 2 fold.

1. It is supposed to clean your engine out with it's detergents but IMHO it is not worth it as it could have adverse effects in actually dislodging carbon deposits that maybe sealing things like piston rings so this may have the effect of actually lowering compression due to gases getting down the side of the piston via the newly cleaned rings.

2. The higher the octane the less likely it is to detonate, basically this means that if you are running silly amounts of boost in your engine via a turbo the petrol will be less likely to combust under these high boost pressures before the spark plugs combusted the mixture. Cars with turbos will generally have a knock sensor, the timing is adjusted via his via the Knock sensor which I suspect Chiq or Sei don't have as they are basic engines to burn the fuel more efficiently.

Hope I haven't made anyone suck eggs but optimax is a con for most cars TBH.

I know that theory sounds good, but I definitely get around 10% more MPG on Optimax, checked over more than a dozen different tankfuls against different fuels.

It's not a theory though :)

yeah, but still - it works in my centos....

You're right about the lack of a knock sensor though.
To gaurantee you got about 10% more mpg you need to run a scientific test, simply driving about isn't good enough as you might not speed as much or where your driving is less busy so your not caught in traffic so you use less petrol. ;)
