Its possibly two problems.

First choice would be to swap the motor wires to make sure the front switch is working.

While in there check that the rubber connectors haven't perished.

You don't need a back one for MOT.

ok thanks
ant idea how to do that? where are the pumps? do i need to take it to a garage or can i do it myself?

thanks

For the back one there is an exposed tube running from the car to the tail gate(there is about 2 inches of tube approx 5mm thick exposed IIRC) in the top left hand corner. If you disconnect that tube then press the switch you can check if the motor is working at the back (washer fluid will come out).

On mine water comes out of that tube but not out of the nozzle, I'm guessing that the nozzle has clogged but I have no idea how to remove it to clean it. But as rallycinq says it doesnt matter for your MOT.

No noise on the front washer says that either there is a faulty connection to the motor or the motor is broken.

Thinking about it, what bothers me most, is that the OP is driving the car (the overheating thread) but doesn't have working washers.

Sod whether its for the MOT or not, for safety's sake get them working.

If the jet is clogged, stick a (thin dress) pin in it, if it does not weep a little when the pump operates it is probably something else. (and you might need a mop as the water is going somewhere else)

I think (from 15 years ago) a cinq has a plug and socket in pipe between car and tailgate, you unplug this, there is then a rubber blank grommet near to the jet which gives access to the rear of the jet and the rubber at rear of the jet can be squeezed to allow it to be pulled out.

But it was my mates wifes car and an early model, and I was merely watching so please be careful, & mine is a Sei.

[edit looked at my Sei, has plug between tail gate and car, but the blank grommet is way too small and too far away from jet, if you pull out jet dont pull hose out from other end or you will have to rethread..., you need to 'butt join' a new length of rubber hose, to avoid a rethread]

Ok, If you have a hose, separate pipe from plus at gate/car join, close tail gate carefully, apply hose over jet hold down unto paint surface and get some one else to turn on water.

Water should come out of unplugged join and not ingress car, you may be wet afterwards though, if you are ham fisted like me...

I think it just pulls out like a grommet and you put it back by coating in vaseline, and pushing.

The water hose was to rinse (flow) out as much of the crud that may be in the pipes and jet, for a long term fix. Id gibe it five minutes of steady flow.

Compressed air wont be as effective necessarily, but if you don't have a hose, you can certaintly try it.

If the jet gum us after a day then you may have to rinse out the tadpoles or whatever from the under wing resevoir.
