hello.....hope this is in the right section.

i am new, just wanted to register and say hi.

ive got a cinq with a turbo conversion from vanaaken,have had it about a year and it was running brilliant, but am now having severe problems with it.
anyway to cut a long story short....its in the garage having the 1242cc lump conversion.....
do i have to change the gearbox aswell??

oh, im in plymouth....and im a marine biologist.

only just found this site when i was looking for an engine..........

The Cinq gearbox will fit straight onto the 1242 engine, no worries. I can tell you that for certain, I've got one on the drive outside

You'll love it with the 1242 in, there's a fair bit more go especially at lower revs than with the 1108 engine. Much fun indeed.

and what about the ecu and the electrics and my extra injector that vanaaken did.....

Are you keeping the turbo with the 1242?

Had loads of problems with mine getting hot, really needed some sort of remap to fuel it properly. 1242 on it's own is easy and reliable though.

s'ok, we aim to please!

Gearbox will fit no problems, clutch is identical from 1108 to 1242. It just bolts up fine. I've got a bog standard Cinquecento clutch in mine, it survived 10 full moo starts at York Dragway this year without the slightest whiff or problem.

The garage may well have to make up a spacer plate to fit between manifold and turbo though as there's a clearance issue: the 1242 engine is about 12mm taller than the 1108 so the exhaust won't fit easily under the sump. The plate is simple enough, just needs to be about 1/2" thick and cut out to match the holes. New longer studs from manifold to turbo will be needed, but that's simple enough. Failing that, the exhaust front pipe will need to be cut and shut to fit.

Assuming you've got the low boost kit like mine, the 1242 internals can be left alone if in good order. The ecu will be ok, but you'd benefit from having the second injector MF2 controller set up on a rolling road to make sure things are hunky-dory.

One thing that I'd say is a must on these turbo cinqs is an oil cooler. As Andy says, heat is an issue when pressing on. I'm surprised at how fast the oil temp rises on mine until the cooler thermostat opens up and starts to regulate things.

and thankyou, for the information.....thats very helpful. i will get an oil cooler fitted at the same time.

mine had problems with overheating, just on a low pressure turbo and standard 1108 block, so i plumbed in an rs turbo intercooler and a load of blue samcos......looks lovely, and cooled it down, but i dont think that will be enough with the 1242.....so i will get an oil cooler.

im sorry i havent got any pictures.....but i will try to sort something out...its basically standard to look at.... gun metal grey, lowered 40mm and de-badged, clear side repeaters and i sprayed my bumper mouldings black.
its pretty simple....but its subtle and tidy, which is how i like it.

thats the plan........im hoping that it will give me similar performance at lower boost....am running about 110bhp, well, i was before it melted my pistons...so hopefully bigger block will be a bit stronger, and more reliable???
