Hi All

My Sister has just bought a Fiat Cinquecento Sporting 1.1 in Broom Yellow
31000 Miles on the clock and one owner. Its great fun to drive and the sporting interior is like new.

Only problem we can find so far is the fuel pump. The pump makes a constant high pitched whirring noise. So I wondered if it is a known issue.

The car runs fine but obviously I want to sort the pump straight away, any advice you can give would be cool.

Now I want a Broom Yellow Bravo because the colour is fantastic :D

hehe, good colour choice

Does the pump sound like it is struggling, or just making more noise than seems normal?

The pump in my car is a P85 pump and i have tweaked the fuel pressure, this means at idle when sat in the car i can hear the pump - but its nothing imo to worry about.

Hey Arc :D

I wouldt say its struggling but the whirring sound is immense inside and outside the car. Very Loud definatly not normal.

Apart from that sound the car performs fine, Ive driven it 10Miles today.

very loud isnt so good, you may as well replace the pump.

Lift up the back seat, remove the metal plate, disonnect the wires (carefully, can sometimes damage the connecotrs), remove the bracket holding the fuel lines in, disconnect the fuel lines and evap system lines, remove the tiny bolts round the outside of it and then pull it out - give it wiggle to get it all the way out.

Now.. you can either replace the whole unit for a second hand cento unit - or strip it down further until you get to just the pump (image attached) and then replace just that bit if you cannot find a cento pump and housing for a good price. The punto 55/60 use the same pump as im sure many other cars do as well.

The pump is a QFP700.

you missed a bit. you need to twist out the fuel gauge part first. its obvious once you have the cover off. there is like a small cap with a connector right in the center.. turn it and pull it out. you can then undo all the little nuts (LOADS of em) then rest of the unit comes out with a wiggle.

I find it weird how the pump can make such a loud noise without effecting the engine. are you SURE its the pump?

good point, forgot about the fuel sender!

the second picture shows the cento fuel pump assembly next to a punto85 fuel pump assmeble. I stripped them both down and now use the P85 pump fitted to the cento assembly. (mainly because i need much more fuel pressure than stock)

Just an update the fuel pump is all sorted now.

I managed to get a new pump for 20 quid. Pulled the unit out and swapped the little pump motor for the new one. Then put it all back together and tested.

:D :D :D All works perfectly. I feel very proud.

Thanks all for your help especially Arc (y)
