right, will get straight to the point!! i dont have much money so PLEASE no one say get a mechanic to do it!! Ive got a .9 Sciento which is having a few problems!! here are my probs im having with it and can anyone help me PLEASE!!!

1) My head lights are pointing down so i can hardly see 3ft infront of me even with full beam!! how can i move them up when the inside switch is right up.
(i had a go but a screw snapped and now ive gota sort that out before i do anything else GRRRRR)

2) My alternator belt is ALWAYS slipping, any way of tightening it up really tight other than jacking it up putting a bit of wood under the alternator to then let the jack off that then pushes up the alternator to tighten the belt.

3) most the time when im breaking my lights dim... quite a bit, dont have a clue why its doing that.

im usually alright with my lil fiat, i fitted a new engine last year so i know my way around it, but ever since i gave it to my friend whos a mechanic to sort out my ignition coils its just gone all wrong!!!!

OH and another thing, my water is going down VERY fast!!! but i dont know what the temp is in the engine coz i dont have that dial on my clock!!

Oh yeah and one more thing... my heaters dont work... dont blow and no heat! now tbh i dont have a CLUE how heaters work!

i have one answer in my head for all these probs but i dont really want to do it and that is SRAP IT!!!!!! lol

you need to locate the plastic screw on top of the headlamp or if its been in a minor accident the brackets might need straightening (important to get it checked after you have it something like right as you dont want to blind oncoming drivers (also in our area police are doing a winter crack down on defective lighting and headlight alignment
)

probably what is called an earth fault rip the back of the car to bits and locate the earth point (wire with a ring crimp on) unbolt it clean the post surrounding body work and Eyelet with a bit of wire wool then put back)

Check for leaks and check the oil cap for a white deposit sounds like the head gaskit

probably a fuse check the hand book for location

as above or the cable that controls the air flow had detached

You can't really align headlamps yourself: it's also possible that they're actually broken (if you can grab the bulb connector and woggle the reflector around a lot, then that is the case).

The alternator probably needs a new belt.

The earth fault thing as above, but cover the ends with vaseline and it won't happen again for several years.

Head gasket aside, the water pump is a likely leak point. Generally you won't see it unless you thoroughly warm up the car and crawl under it with the engine running (driver's side).

The heater not working is likely to be because there's air in the system. Try bleeding it.

For the heater fan, check the fuses.
 
The lights dimming are probably because your belt is squealing.

If you tighten the belt too much you will fubar the alternator bearings. Its cheaper to put a new belt on.

Make sure your alternator is giving an output around 13.8V.

Refill the water system with the correct coolant and make sure you fully bleed it.

Run it up to hot while at a standstill and make sure water isn't leaking from the cap, the pump, or the radiator.

nice one peeps for the replys! i have checked out my lights and well they have had it but ive sorted them out for the mean time so i can now see where im going!! WOOP WOOP!!! :slayer:

my altornator belt was new and i kept tightenin it and tightening it, but i took the belt off and its had it so will get another one for a couple of quid!!

my heaters, got a mate to have a look at it for me, he says some motor has gone soooo... will have to get that sorted soon as this country is gettin colder and colder!!!

doesnt seem to be headgasket for the reason of my water dropping down fast soooo i will check out the water pump!! really hope i can get most of my probs sorted this weekend coz i got a big project to be gettin on with!!

ever since i got this car ive had prob after prob :bang: but some how i just wana keep it and fix it!! lol!! FIAT for me is standing for Fix It Again Tomorrow at the moment!! lol

I had that problem before, watering going away quicly and heater don't work.

Change my thermostat, it was perfect! but again remember to bleed it!.

While changing the thermostat give the readiator and the engine a good flush out :).
