hey there Fiat-fettlers,

Having fitted a new petrol filter last month and seeing a massive power gain, I noticed the power start to fade until last week the car wouldn't accelerate over 3,500 rpm. I just took off the new filter and emptied it to find brown rusty coloured petrol in the supply (tank) side of it. I can only assume there is water in my petrol tank and it is rusty - anyone else have this prob and how did you fix it. At 25Europeans for a petrol filter every month, my runabout won't be so economical!!!

Thankx

i've seen products in a local car shop that are meant to able to remove the water from fuel. You could try running the tank low and then draining it and flushing it through with clean petrol.

has the car been in for the fuel tank recall?

Arse! Tank coming off tonight and will take a look. Anyone try coating the inside of the tank with two-pack paint which might resist further rusting? I never checked to see if the car was part of the tank recall - I understood that to have closed and there was no point trying for a new tank.

All's well that ends well, took out tank (pig of a job) and found it full of sand, dirt, rust and crud! Drained it, scrubbed it, stripped and cleaned the fuel pump, level sensor and filter, put it all back on and wahey, she flies. Fitted Punto 60 throttle body and modified mounting block too - its like a new car!

Nice one - the throttle body is a decent mod for the price, I'd say :)

When you say you modified the mounting block, you mean you bored it out to the same size as the throttle body?

just fitted a new champion fuel filter to mine tonight, for some reason it is half the length of the orriginal so i had to extend the fuel pipe so a five minute job took over an hour.

An dto top it all off it made absolutely no difference.
