At long blippin' last I've got me Punto engine fitted. No skin left on knuckles, no money left in pockets after buying clutch/belts/plugs/oil/filters/tea/biscuits/Haynes manual off eBay :)

Its not quite running and I have two quick questions.

Question 1. Some twonk has run off with the connecting bit for the wiper - does anyone have one lying around that they'd stick in a jiffy bag please - pm me and I'll arrange payment.

Question 2. The Punto throttle body doesn't have the extra vacuum connection to the air filter that the Cinq has - should I just block the tube or what (see pic)?

Thanks in advance.

congrats on swappsage!

i'm assuming you're refering the the vacuum line that has the pipe on with brown bits at either end. You don't need this. Its for switching the hot/cold air feeds in the std airbox which i'm assuming you've binned by now! It can be blocked and forgotten about

Cool! thanks for that arc - yes, standard airbox is for the bin as soon as I can get my hands on GSR F1i induction kit. Anyone have any opinions/experiences with porting or gasflowing? I was going to take a ball-nosed cutter to the inlet manifold last night but held off until later...

Erm...Yes yu'll need to get that port blocked off...or take a line off one of the crankcase emission control system lines (the blue ones)

I dunno 'owt about Porting etc, but Im gonna give it a go with mine when I get the new head!

First look at your pics made me hink you had writ it off!

LOL at Tea and buscuits!

Remember to tell us when it's all back on the road again and do drive around 50 miles before really noticing the difference.

Writ it off - thats a class bus that is!! I found it at the back of a scrap yard with its timing belt in shreds and the interior covered in green mould (previous owners sticky brats had big hands and small mouths). I gave the nice man 200Europeans and dragged it home - apart from the wonky engine and obviously knackered wipers it is in good nick - well, one chipped headlight - badboy bonnet will cover hole:) and the nice people at AXA will buy me a windscreen soon. I have tinted the rear lights but am building a full set of Lexus LED lights so it should stand out. Am intrigued about the 50 mile running-in period, is that even with the Punto injector? I was hoping to go baiting GT Starlets this evening...

50 miles? READ 300MILE! damn, didnt mean the caps there.

My 1242 seemed great after 300 miles, but getting the exhaust properly sealed really helped things!!

It's all to do with your ECU learning the new settings from all of the sensors then overwriting the previous 1108 settings to give the full perfomance.

There is a lot of prts stripped for the conversion, thats all I meant by the write off comment sorry.

Great buy for 200 euros me thinks!

i just reconned my wiper linkages. Rang fiat for that little piece because mine was siezed. Told me in a nice fashion that i had too buy the whole wiper linkage not including the motor at £72 plus VAT. Needless too say i got the linkage unsiezed and filled the swear box with enough cash too buy a new linkage lol

Ar*e! Finished the engine swap on Friday night, welded the 10mm extra onto the exhaust downpipe, fitted new belts, plugs, filters and oil and went to fire it but no joy. Pulled the plugs and found them all wet. With water. Cranked engine and it fired muddy water across the garage. FECK. Stripped engine and pulled the head off to find I've been done - piston #4 holed, bores scored and head gasket shot. Too disappointed to comment further - trying to find info on over-boring and will update when (if) I do more. I might post pics of the damage just for laughs.

Gutted? I nearly took it out and burned it on the spot. And to add insult to injury, the other black Cinq is running like a bag of ****e despite new throttle blobby and a service. I give up and I'm off to buy a Seat Arosa..... Joke, no I'm not. I'm off to find a Tipo 16v engine.....

my throttle body is still causing the ECU a few haedaches!lol

bad luck fella. good luck with getting it sorted. have a few tins to calm you down and come back to us with what you're gonna do next

I think its a feature of 1242's atm....death and problems!!
My sump still isnt sealing!!
