i have a sei 1999 1.1 sporting and looking at getting a full exhaust sytem, am looking to find the system that will offer the most power for me, had a look on the net and have only found one made by janspeed.
any ideas on any others and an guess on performence gain?

cheers

Backbox will make the most difference, although not noticeable IMO 2-3bhp maybe...

I'd save your cash and keep the standard mid section.

Supersprint is what I always run on my cars. Excellent fit, factory sound, small performance gain.

but surley a full system including downpipe will increase back pressure and hourse power more than 2 3 Bhp

K3mp, to keep things in perspective a 2.5bhp increase is just under 5%, which is good going for a cat back system. Personally I'd go for a custom stainless system I don't know what ID you'll be wanting.

craigb244, you're correct that no back pressure in an N/A is a problem. However as a general rule OE systems have more back pressure than required for optimal power output to help get the emission levels down at idle etc.

I like the Janspeed, well made and, in stainless, seem to last forever. Nice burble, but not too loud. You can often pick them up second hand.

Powerwise, I think you'd get more from a P75 cam, a decent intake system or a manifold.

Pick up the exhaust second hand and you might have enough left for one of the others.

if you dont have other mods like an induction kit also you will get very little increase

an exhaust system does very little just on its own on a standard engine/induction

Agreed - I guess (and this is a guess- dynopack to confirm at some point in the not too distant future) that having sorted induction & exhaust I'm probably only looking at 7-10 bhp at most, and that's being very generous!
I didn't notice a massive increase in power from exhaust alone, but after the induction kit was fitted it was noticeable...just

hmm tough one this, i had a cat back system custom made for my golf by powerflow (cheapest by miles and a while you wait service too!). Im not sure if they do one for the cinq/sei but im betting they do

cheers

my janspeed backbox will be up for sale very soon, just need to get the pipe on me supersprint expanded abit.

Manifold will be going aswell but someone already has dibs on it

Not really, the car has hardly any power to begin with and it's a tiny engine.

The standard backboxes are shocking in terms of design.

Buy a mid section if you want, it's a waste of cash if yours is fine IMO Been there, done that on a 1242 8v engine and wished I never bothered. Even with a list of mods as long as my arm the centre section was a waste of 100 quid.

So are you saying the exhaust system have no use what so ever in terms of performance gain ??

Thanks

No, of course not; that's absurd.

I am saying thay bang for buck the centre section is a total waste of cash assuming yours isn't rotted/leaking. The backbox is worth it at a stretch. For 100 quid you can get more power e.g. what fingers has said - cam, induction.

If you were to add a P75 cam don't you need to reshim the head or something? Or is it a straight fit? I never knew the crack with those things, but are apparently very good.

Luke.

You need to re-shim the head. But then, you should check the valve clearances every 18000 miles anyway, which may mean you have to re-shim the head.

It's very easy, and routine maintenance.
