Scratching when turning wheel left

Hi all,

Have a high pitched intermittant scratching sound when i turn the wheel sharpish left, roundabouts etc.. Sounds almost as if something is scratching the disc or similar.. Had a look at the brakes but doesnt seem anything out of order, possibly something in the pad? It happens without the brake applied though so I can't really narrow it down.. Any opinions/suggestions welcome!

ball joint could be gone?

Na the ball joints are sound as far as i know, replaced the CV boot last week and checked it all out.. I will tweak back the stone guard and see if that helps, it is very wierd and seems to happen really often on some journeys and not at all on others, although a couple of tight corners on my commute it happens every time! really weird and frustrating problem!

Behind the brake disc is a thin metal disc, meant to stop stones getting trapped between disc and pad. Its so thin that it can bend. Mine used to sometimes catch on the disc, but only on full left lock, or partial left lock with a bit of suspension travel. Just gave it a push back with a large screwdriver. Pushed is back about 10mm to 15mm, so when it springs back its actually about 5mm further in.
