Hi guys.gals, how do I adjust the handbrake cable as it doesn't work very well, most of the time it still moves a bit, whilst creaking. Think it just needs setting so you don't have to have the handbrake pulled up so far its touching the roof to stay still.

Do I need to jack the car up?

if you cut your carpet a bit on the front and back of the handbrake leaver you can get at the leaver mounting bolts, fiat were kind enough too make the handbrakes with elongated mounting holes so you can move the handbrake leaver forwards thus tightening the cable.
otherwise its 2 nuts under the middle of the car.

I'm not being funny here but hearing cut your carpet from a Fiat Tech isn't installing any readers confidence in taking their pride and joy to a Fiat garage is it?

Jack rear of car up on both sides and support with axle stands and underneath where the handbrake is situated you will find a long thread with two nuts, loosen one with a spanner and tighten the other to tighten the cable and then tighten up the nut you slackened off which is there to act as a locking nut.

Unfortunately this will only give you a couple of months more before it is always running away, the design of the friction adjusters is crap and without stripping down weekly theres not much you can do.

never had any complaints before, its hardly even noticable but each too there own i guess.

Hi guys, the car is a little Cinquecento. I don't mind cutting the carpet as its not really my pride and joy, just used as a little run around for the time being. My pride and Joy can be found below. You guys might not like it as its non Fiat, but what the hell check it out.

Not having a go, but I'm interested to know - if you tighten up the handbrake cable with this method, don't you come across problems if you fit new shoes and a cable at a later date - you may run out of adjustment?

no, at most it will only take a click of the handbrake, its a quick fix if you dont want too go crawling about under the car.

The Civic looks really smart, but ruined by the fact that you and your mate parked in the disabled spaces outside Pizza Hut.

Similar thing happened yesterday, bloke in a really smart yellow Fiat Coupe parked across 2 spaces outside McD's - the only 2 disabled spaces too.

Sorry if this upsets you and I will eat humble pie, delete this message and say a thousand Hail Marys if you and your mate are disabled, but this really p***** me off if you're just bone idle like the Coupe driver.

We didn't actually leave the cars there, we just pulled up a second while my other mates were going through Mc D's Drive through, and as we waiting I thought I would get a quick snap. No other space so what do you do. They should build more parking to accommodate.

My Civic is at various shows through the year and to be completely honest, when I had to take my Civic (before I got a 2nd car) to places, I used to park across two spaces, purely for the fact you get idiots who don’t care about other people property. The amount of times I had careless people open the doors into my car, and who has to pay for it, Me.

I used to park across two bays after i got the dents fixed from my doors from people like that, untill of course i got a note on my windscreen saying "Nice parking you f***ing ****, then wen i turned the card ova there was "Cars s**t anyway!!!" on the back. Thought i'd give it a rest for a while, well untill i get the respray that is. ;);)

Whenever I'm at the airport there is always Porkers and 'rari's parked over two spaces but if this isn't an option then park at the end of the bays and at least eliminate 50% of the chance of someone opening the door on you.
