I had a new water pump arrive today, and it looks significatnly different to the old one. It's just the impeller part is a lot smaller.

What does everyone think? I don't think it will be ok personally, but maybe somebody knows more than I do ;)

Cheers,

Kristian

I got in touch with Shop4Parts, and they checked the fiat part number on the original and said it was compatible.

i wasn't convinced, so i sent them a picture for them to look at. He said his tech didn't have a clue, so they rang FIAT, and FIAT said there were two revisions, and my one has been superceeded by this design.

Its a Magnetti Marelli part, adn on the packet says is suitable for Puno Grande 05 onwards.

If i am to beleive what they said i should be fine....and if it doesn't work properly, I can still return it. It will be a pig stripping it back out though.

It certainly looks liek it will physically fit, but i didn't try as I didn't want to take it out of the packaging.

I think I will give it a go, but am not home now until Monday.

On another note, I picked up a new oil pump, crank seals, and big end bearings. Hopefully the main end beraing will be in on saturday, so the rebuild can take place very soon :)

You don't have a FIRE one to compare against the new one, perchance? I was thinking of it as a suitable transplant for Blue, if I could work out a way to change pulleys over.

The main reason for going for a big impeller are, obviously enough, better coolant flow, but that's at the expense of horsepower and, possibly, cavitation.

I wouldn't bother it had a new pump fitted when i had it, the new type with plastic impeller instead of metal one which corrodes and leaks.

Just blooming rebuild the thing and stop looking to try and change stuff that works, and over complicating matters, cooling was never an issue temps were always in check :D
