Hi all,
I'm looking for some more acceleration in my '94 899 cinq, and was wondering what stuff to do to it to get some more acceleration?

Cheers

How much you wanna spend?

First steps, decent induction system, exhaust mani, exhaust, bigger TB, porting, cam.

Smaller wheels (or shorter tyres) would help, but at the expense of fuel economy and top speed (and -- just maybe -- handling).

The most cost effective way is going to be a Sporting transplant. There's a free Sporting in the classifieds!

Look at it this way: whatever engine is in it, it'll still have the same weight to drag around. The bigger the engine, the more extra you get for less money.

sell it and get a sporting.

Its an 899 engine, no offence but at the end of the day what are you expecting?

hmm... tb from punto 32mm and induction kit , nothing else it can be done really.

Cam .. i don't think there is one that would help the 899.

And just maintain it to the highest standard and get close to the factory standard 39 bhp as possible :D

Yes, getting a sporting might be the better options, but i prefer the look of the 899 with the black bumpers and black wing mirrors :D

My 899 didn't have more than 80mph in him, but he had a lot more clout than my Sei off the line (this is based on my Sei when she was running right - if we drew a comparison now, then my old car would walk all over my Sei!).

Here's the list -

*Induction kit
*exhaust - even just a free flowing back box, and straight midpipe will make a difference
*Light weight alloys - not the standard Fiat garb
*And last but not least - NO HEAVY SUBS! :p

That because youve tried to fix something that to me wasnt broken in the first place and its cocked up

899 more clout than the 1108 off the line? yeaa ok

Well first, this is my first car, and second, this car was given to me for free and needed work doing to it, so I have, it runs, it gets from A to B, and now I want to personalises it.

Ok thank all

Cheers

New plugs, new air filter, oil filter and oil (service) 30mm throttle body...........................

.............followed by as much weight saving as you can live with(y)

Power to weight is the top factor in improving acceleration, braking and handling on an 899, and as a bonus it's FREE!
Take the rear seat out and weigh it (stand on the scales, take reading, grab hold of any bits you've removed, take reading again, subract 2nd from 1st to find weight) Take out anything that isn't essential for driving, and feel the improvement straight away. In fact give it a service then get a mate to time a speedo 0-60, take all the bits out then get the same mate to time the same 0-60 on the same bit of road and report back here with the difference (y)

(throttle body size error may have been caused by me having to do 400miles today in this, bumpy doesn't do it justice)
